Airtran LAX-FLL

Fri Apr 22, 2005 3:48 pm

It looks like it will be either AA or Airtran for me for this route. Is there any reason why I should try Airtran? What is the service like and most importantly are their planes comfortable?

Airtran would be a one stopper or same-plane service through either DFW or ATL, the AA would be non-stop. Either you want to stop en-route or take nonstop is really the choice.

If you want to go nonstop, use AA. If you want to go cheap, use FL via ATL.

Long Beach is not LAX, not everyone is able to use a secondary airport for their travel plans.

You are right. LGB is not LAX. It much more convenient, easier and more accessible to 75% of the people that fly out of LAX.

Actually LAX is no LGB.

To check out their new 717 and 737 planes and/or XM Satelite radio (though not all of FL's planes have this feature yet). Your shorter flight segment will probably be done with a 717; your LAX-ATL leg (should you opt for this itinerary) will be on their 73G.

You can fly FL via DFW as well from FLL to LAX.

I would recommend you try the Jetblue LGB/FLL seats are comfortable and all that good stuff but that little PTV is a lifesaver on that 4.5/5hr flight! LIFESAVER!

The only problem with the B6 flight is it leaves at 9:30pm, so it gets in at "5:20am" which usually means 5:05am or 4:45am...so it gets in REALLY early...even for a red eye. AA and DL's red eye get in an hour later...so thats a plus for them.
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

Actually jetBlue flights are as expensive as these other flights and they have a terrible flight hour. I was wondering if anyone could share their experience with airtran as I might be going with them if they are good.

You want friendly crew members and new planes? Fly AirTran. I cannot gurantee XM Radio will be on your plane, but in a few years it will be on all of them, and that is a reason to fly AirTran. If not them, jetBlue.

Well, you get 100% fresh air on FL if you fly via DFW with the 717. If you fly through ATL, you get the 73G. Still, you really should not overlook B6.

Easier, maybe (if you think 405 traffic is easy). It is not more convenient or more accessable to even 50% of the people who use LAX.

You are right, it is easier to get to, closer for most people, and has many more service options

I'd say definitly stay away from FL. Hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em! The seats are practicly bricks. If you had the option.. give song a try.  Smile Otherwise.. stick with AA if it's your only option.  Smile

I would say go with FL...of course I am stockholder in them and am just being greedy!  Wink Servicewise, I could not tell you. I would take them because of the 717....I have never been on one before. However, given that I am in DSM and seldom (ever?) go to the Southeast, I have never flown FL.

Unless you hate Delta, take Song. Delta needs the money. And the service, style and free personal television are excellent.

I like Airtran. Never had a problem on them. Love the 717s. Don't find the seats "uncomfortable" as others have said. Love the ability to upgrade to first for a nominal fee at the gate (something to consider). But unless you're bringing a laptop with movies or an IPod, I would find that a pretty long flight to take without any kind of entertainment as an option.
