Neat plane, just hope that they don't ship actual cargo that way, it would be demolished before the plane even lands.

I always wondered the point of these displays. These aircraft won't do anything close like that in real life .Its the performance and economics that sells them . I hope Airbus won't waste their time doing stunts like this with the A380

There is absolutely a point in doing this kind of display. In marketing terms: "Appearance is everything". It's marketing, not reality.

oh come on! who buys aircraft because they can do barrel rolls and steep turns? economics , not asthetics sells the airplane.

The flashy shows increase the indivual consumers' awareness of the aircraft. Even though they don't purchase the aircraft directly, it never hurts to have the public show interest in your plane or even actively want to fly it. For example, many travelers (even those that aren't so plane-obsessed like us) actually do have aircraft preferences and choose thier flights based on the aircraft type. Airlines and Manufacturers realize this and view these shows as opportunities to show off thier product. Also, what's wrong with just a little fun.
By the way, how my orders exist for this plane?

Well they did waste their time with the A340, and I don't think too many bystanders complained:

Car ads often show extreme manoeuvers.
Razor ads often show things like hang-gliding.
Deodorant ads sometimes show extreme sports.

Does this have anything to do with your actual usage of the product? Probably not.
Do you buy it because your awareness was increased? In many cases, yes.

Showing off works at the subconscious level, even with airline buyers.

I hope they do! But only because I really want to see it done with the 380 Big grin

It is an impressive performance no doubt. Thanks for sharing the video. By any chance, does anyone one have the comparison breakdown between Tu204 and B757? Thanks.

Did you guys see, how the elevator is shaking short after the touch down?
I never saw this that strong. I realized it before at the 767, 772/3 and 330 / 340 series. Even on 747's. But never that strong like here on the Tu 204.
Cool video though...

- it because of the dirty air flowing from the lift dumpers
- unloaded / empty aircraft are less stiff

Wow.What an amazing looking aircraft. Seems much more agile and graceful than the 757(even with winglets!) The engines do seem as though they are a little too large for the airframe, they dont look or sound like RB211's. Are they the PS engines? Why dont western airlines operate this a/c? surely it must be cheaper to buy/lease than the 757?

i think it looks sortof like the child of a 757 with winglets and an a321. also it seems to smoke a bit too much for a new plane or is that because of full power tests?

They do, it's on lease to them from a third party.

There is some stuff kicking about concerning those aircraft, apparently they are extremely good cargo lifters and economical as well.

It's just a shame the IL-96M and IL-96T program never fully happened with the Pratt and Whitney engines. That was a stunning aircraft.

A test pilot for the first 707 did a barrel roll in it and amazed the customers on the ground, not the CEO of Boeing at that time.

Airlines may not care, but I do! I love to watch a plane doing these maneuvers!

I haven't read a lot about Russian planes, why has the Tu-204 so few orders? It's a very modern airplane, but is its performance that bad compared to the 757 or A321? Happens also with most Russian planes. Why is this?

Indeed. Tex Johnston rolled the 367-80. And the customer did buy  Wink

That's a whole different debate.

Here are a few factors

1. Prejudice and perception that Russian = unsafe (the word that fits here is "bollocks")
2. Support and spares availability
3. Aftermarket value of the aircraft at resale
4. Operating economics and noise performance of Russian built engines (increasingly no longer a factor)

Yes TNT have a leased Tu-204 from Cairo Aviation Cargo. The latter operate both passenger and cargo versions of the aircraft (the owner owns 49% of the Tupolev company).
