I've never flown with Easyjet so far, but I did that with Jet2.com several times and they are good, I would not like this takeover,
hope it will not really happen!

Any ideas for a signature?

Hi

I too hope Easyjet don't buy Jet2, As If they did, I could see the Belfast-Bournemouth route closed.

Before Easyjet started operations, they flew a aircraft to Bournemouth to see if they wanted to fly here, and they apperently said they didn't because the terminal was tiny, Why would there views change now?

Sure It would be a nice change to see Easyjet at Bournemouth, but I don't see that happening.

Does anyone have any proper information on this? (Not doubting you Glenn)

Well, there have been lots of reports in the media lately about the overcapacity of LCCs in Europe and that consolidations and mergers will be the next big thing to happen in the aviation industry. Perhaps this is where it begins...

3 aircraft based at LBA? Considering LS currently base 9 733's at LBA then that would be a huge cut in services. Sorry Glenn, but U2 can get lost!

Well let's hope history doesn't repeat itself - remember when easyJet bought Go they took a quality product and turned it into orange crap. Sincerely hope they don't get a chance to do that to Jet2.

I sincerely hope EasyJet dont get their paws on LS. Their flights from MAN to EDI are only a £1 when you go on the site, with £14 tax each way. £30 rtn? I cant see EZY doing that if they ship in. Also, I suspect the idea of 757's and transatlantic LCC would go straight out the window!

Exactly, if booked early enough, on the 3rd day of the 4th month, when the moon is full and the tide is low and the captain's name is Bill and he's wearing blue underpants. As yet, unless you book WAY in advance, i'm yet to find the cheapest quoted fare with EZY. Im sure I will be proven wrong on this! But all the same, i've always found reasonable fares with WW and LS, relatively late in the day before date of travel.

Well...Its One sure way to get rid of the competition...If You can't beat them, Join them (Or take them over).
First GO now Jet2, what's next?...My Travel Light, BMI Baby.

Jimmi is right, it would be bad if the Belfast-Bournemouth route was closed. Not just bad for Bournemouth, but for Belfast Intl. Which means the Belfast- Prague route may be closed. I'm sick of seeing the Orange EasyJet colours at Belfast Intl (What is it now 75% of All Flights). Jet2, My Travel ect are a change and nice to see while at the airport, instead of the EasyJet 737s.

<>
Not sure I remember it as a quality product, but just a good ole Low cost op. (that had been propped up by Big Airways).
Unfortunately because the public want to fly on a bus service, the airlines will have to operate as such.

I question why they would bother to be honest. U2 could apply for slots(if required) and launch service on the same routes as LS, but with cheaper prices to put them out of business.

Why bother buying them up at all?

This is probably a very good indication on how well these airlines are doing at the moment. If you sell cheap fares close to departure than it doesn't look good.

If you buy them you don't need to allocate your own rescources to the routes. Moreover you prevent a costly war whereby the outcome is uncertain. In the end buying a competitor can be a quick and cheap way of getting less competition or enter a specific market.

I get the horrible feeling it would be a certain airline who has an affinity for 'raping' aircraft manufacturers.

Sorry U2 but Jet2 know nothing of your interest in buying them out!!

I've just been speaking to a delightful member of their first class Yorkshire staff and have to report that the Jet2 rumour board is empty.

In any event,I doubt Phil Meeson will allow his baby to be taken out of Dart Group control in the foreseeable future. The Jet2 product brand in the North of England is one of the strongest around and a takeover by EasyJet would only alienate the regular pax base the airline has established.

Yorkshire is rightly proud of it's own airline, long may that continue.

Every business is for sale at the right price. New niche players will keep appearing, and the successful ones will be bought out.

Think of two LCC's, media hungry, looking to out grow each other.

I seriously hope its only a rumor and nothing more, nothing against Easyjet but I hope they never become a dominant LCC in the UK, the whole point of setting up LCC's is to have competition, like with Ryanair and Jet2, if Easyjet buys off ever LCC it see's there wont be any substantial LCC in the UK, and then Easyjet going from a LCC i fear will then turn into a carrier such as BA/BMI and "upping" the fares as noone else has got any other option, this is what I fear anyway.
Its not the fall that kills u, its the sudden stop at the end..

Completely unfounded IMHO.

Jet2 is part of the Channel Express - Dart Group setup. So how could Jet2 be successfully demerged and sold from those companies when there is considerable crossover? The other activities do not fit with the Easyjet model. Doing a deal would take a lot of money and then seeing that money tied up in non-core activity if EZY was to try and bid for the whole operation.

Go was exclusively a lowcost business in EZY's mould. Jet2 is much more complex. This is a total non-starter.

Yep its definitely morecomplicatd than the Go buy-out, but nobody seems to have thought that perhaps this couldhave an Icelandic element to it. They bought a chunk of easy, and others are buying up UK operators - why not nuy up the Dart/Ch.Ex group, or at least part of it - Jet2 into easy and the Chan.Ex part goes seperate.

Just another possibility to throw into the mix.

Jet2 are gaining critical mass fast - a key thing with LCCs. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if U2 and FR are looking at them before they get to be real competition.

They only have 3 QC aircraft, and this doesn't mean they have to do cargo op's, the only time they are used as Cargo aircraft is when Channel Express' fleet is out numbered with cargo op's. Which is hardly ever.

I spoke to Phil Meeson a few Weeks ago and asked how Jet2 were doing his reply was "very well" he seamed very happy with it.
Channel Express does not seam to have any plans to sell in fact they are looking for more routes to take on.
Now Channel Express no longer have the F27`s flying to the islands they have a need to increase and expand the areas of expertise they have like Cargo (737 Conversions) and Passengers (JET2).

The annoucement this week on the new LBA-TFS service from October doesn't sound like a carrier about to sell out either.

Expect more route announcements from LBA soon (rumours flying around all over the place)!  Smile
