Pan Am To Switch To Raisbeck Hushkits

Wed Apr 12, 2000 4:23 am

Pan Am announced in March that it is to fit its fleet of 7 Boeing 727-200s with Raisbeck Stage 3 hushkits. The hushkits are to be fitted to both the remaining Stage 2 aircraft, as well as those that were earlier modified for Stage 3 compliance.

The Raisbeck system is modelled here by N214F:

Some Pan Am B727-200s were previously fitted with the DuganAir Technologies "Quietwing" system, like N365PA seen here:

The obvious question now is whether Pan Am has decided to ditch the DuganAir system due to a desire for standardization, or because the system has proved to be inadequate and/or problematic in service.

Does anyone have any insights on this move by Pan Am?
