A couple of CP
's routes. CP
did fly YVR
.. It did enjoy good loads between HKG
but didn't quite achieve the loads they wanted for BKK
. The aircraft flown was a 747-400.
Apparently when CP
negotiated for the flight way back in the 80's, they had only negotiated for a load factor for a DC-10. So when the 747s were introduced, they had to severly restrict their BKK
loads to the full capacity of a DC10. They couldn't sell more seats even if it was available.
Soon after the Oneworld alliance came into play, CP
just decided to codeshare with partner CX
for the ongoing traffic from HKG
In the 80's, CP
also flew YVR
! Recently traffic rights included YVR
which it codeshared with Malaysia Airlines. If an airline codeshares with another airline, it means that it can also operate the route if it wanted to with their own aircraft.
holds traffic rights for Singapore and Jakarta which it has not excercised. It used to be that if AC
did not excercised their rights to fly to these places, CP
would have the right to take these over from them...
