CP Routes 2 Asia That AC Discontinued

Tue Apr 26, 2005 5:20 pm

CP used to fly YVR-HKG-BKK, YVR-TPE, YVR-MNL but AC doesn't fly to BKK, TPE & MNL now. I think maybe BKK is a codeshare with TG or OZ. Was TPE given up in favour for PVG & PEK? And I always thought MNL was a lucrative destination?

With AC's Boeing order expect to see routes like that, traffic permitting, re-opened. Perhaps even non-stop YVR-BKK!

What about YVR-SGN? It no longer shows up in AC timetable.

HKG-BKK and YVR-MNL were discontinued prior to AC's takeover. I think HKG-BKK was codeshared with CX.

AC is codeshare with TG connecting out of HKG once a day under AC9567 or ex NRT as AC 9851. I really loved CP coming to BKK. They always left before 0700 am followed by DL, which also terminated the service in the late nineties.
BKK Don Muang's Airport is really great right after the sun is up.....A lovely scene.

I believe there was once seasonal YYC-NRT with CP DC-10s.

Well...I remember in 1998...CP used to fly from HKG to Manila and then back to HKG later by using a B747-400.

A couple of CP's routes. CP did fly YVR-HKG-BKK and YVR-HKG-MNL.. It did enjoy good loads between HKG-MNL but didn't quite achieve the loads they wanted for BKK. The aircraft flown was a 747-400.

Apparently when CP negotiated for the flight way back in the 80's, they had only negotiated for a load factor for a DC-10. So when the 747s were introduced, they had to severly restrict their BKK-HKG loads to the full capacity of a DC10. They couldn't sell more seats even if it was available.

Soon after the Oneworld alliance came into play, CP just decided to codeshare with partner CX for the ongoing traffic from HKG.

In the 80's, CP also flew YVR-NRT-HKG! Recently traffic rights included YVR-TPE-KUL which it codeshared with Malaysia Airlines. If an airline codeshares with another airline, it means that it can also operate the route if it wanted to with their own aircraft.

AC holds traffic rights for Singapore and Jakarta which it has not excercised. It used to be that if AC did not excercised their rights to fly to these places, CP would have the right to take these over from them...

Strange - I posted a reply about Canadian Airlines operating as a code-share on MAS' YVR-TPE-KUL but someone deleted it. ???
