Orders Fly In For Boeing 787

Tue Apr 26, 2005 10:50 pm

From the Seattle times. very interesting that Boeing is expecting many more orders for the 787 in the next couple of months. Paris is going to be verrrry interesting in June!

BTW, can anyone confirm that Boeing did get the AI order?

It's an amazing airplane and I have no doubt it will have a lot of customers however, I wonder how many of the current orders will be canceled. I mean, do you really think Primaris will ever fly or that Air Canada will have the money to pay for them in 2010?

Assuming that Boeing and Airbus offer great products, do you think the weak dollar is helping Boeing's sales? American products are a bargain now.

I think that is helping. Maybe that's why the administration is not interfering with the dropping dollar. The US needs to get it current account balance righted and Boeing sales to AC and AI certainly help (it helps other US manufactureres of course).

I read on another thread that NW will be announcing theirorder at the end of this week but obviously that's all conjecture. They may announce it at Paris.

Good thing for Boeing employees, especially factory workers.... more jobs, or at least their current jobs being around for quite some time.

On a different point, to quote the article you brought up NYC, "According to an internal Boeing document obtained by the Seattle Times, executives project in the next two months 177 firm orders for the 787..." Do they mean 177 NEW orders in the next two months, or are they talking about 177 FIRM orders allready in place? Just wondering... the article confused me a bit while I was reading it on my way to work. I am really happy for Boeing's workers... they've been hit with nothing but layoffs it seems for a long time.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing! It's a bonus if you can fly the plane again!!

I think that these are going to be new orders above and beyond what has already been announced. I'm assuming that they will firming some of the announced ("committed") orders that they already have. I saw on Bloomberg that of the 237 787 orders that they have in hand 69 are firmed:

50 ANA
2 ANZ
6 First Choice
4 Blue Panorama
2 Icelandair
5 Ethiopian (this is my assumption)

of the 237 that leaves 168 orders that have to be firmed up with a final contract.

To add something else that I just thought of... if NW announced that in Paris, wouldn't that be a real jab in the eye of Airbus? On their home turf and everything.... Not to say they won't make some noise. Maybe we'll find out more about the A350... or something new about the A380.... but it just seems to me that any announcement at the air show would be kind of a slap in the face for Airbus, seeing as how orders for the 787 keep mounting and the A350 is, well, the A350.

Just pounding my point home NYC, but if you're right, and they're above and beyond what's allready announced, I've got to cheer for the people who actually assemble these beauties. Being up here in Washington, I've seen too many pink slips handed out to employees for a long time. Good for them.

It's an assumption. ET is not firm yet.

Currency exchange rates have little to no influence in these deals. More so, Airbus aircraft are priced and sold in US Dollars too. Also, with so much of Boeing aircraft being manufactured overseas, a weak US Dollars isn't exactly helping Boeing's costs. They have to pay their foreign suppliers in US Dollars.
