What Will Boeing Announce At The Paris Air Show?

Thu Apr 28, 2005 11:28 pm

just wanted to get your comments and speculation on any new orders (if any) that Boeing may announce at Paris. I know they have stopped "saving" order announcements for these air shows though some customers may opt to do just that.

I think EK and QR may make announcements at Paris for 777 (EK) and the 787 (EK and QR).

Safe to say 787 and 777 orders. Northwest maybe? South American carrier?

Boeing could announce a replacement for the 737NG based on 787 technology. This would kill A320 sales and Airbus needs those badly. All they need is Ryanair or WN to sign up and they'd be golden. They've been discounting the 737 to fill up their order books maybe for the expected drought from such an announcement.

However, I doubt they will only because they don't have the bodies in the engineering department nor the fully matured experience from the 787 so this would be premature.

They might announce the 747Adv.

In airlines, I doubt there is any big order ready to go although the ME airlines like to make splashy announcements so EK may announce a 789 order or Qatar could do something as well. I suspect LOT will announce but I doubt they will go for Boeing. CX is still probably waiting on the 747Adv but if that is announced their could be a slew of orders announced for that mainly from cargo carriers especially Luxair.

IMO, this seems:

more likely than:

I have heard rumors that Boeing is to announce the new 7S7 - (S for Single aisle, Shuttle Service, Southwest, Short-range, Simplified, etc.). It will feature a 100% composite fuselage, a pointy nose similar to the Concorde, delta wings, new super-quiet hydrogen powered-engines, and skylights over each seat. The plane will offer a 50% savings over equivalent aircraft available today. At least, that is the "concept".

...prolly EK, or SQ, or both announcing the replacement of their A345s with 772LRs.

Maybe... but it would be a media presentation only. Few, if any, details. Its obvious that we would be looking at a new airplane with 787 technology and I can only think of 2-3 "suprises" that Boeing could wrap into the "737-E"

I also agree the most likely new announcement, if there is one, would be the 747A. Otherwise, it would be more information about the 787.

Boeing does not decided when to announce orders, the customer has complete control over this. And the customer always gets to announce the news first.

Let's hope they announce that 787 test fuselage mini-section #2 is out of the oven at or even before that time!

For new orders though, now that the 787 slot availability is maybe pushed back to ~2012 there probably won't be any more combined rush of orders or even 'preliminary commitments' again anytime soon, not even at The Paris Airshow 2005 edition.

Hopefully some more 772LR orders for 'em though.

And hopefully they won't announce any 747Adv, at least not now anyway since it seems to me they got plenty 'nuff on their plate with the 787, as it is.

The decision to offer the 747A to airlines is expected after Paris, IIRC. So I doubt we will see any major news on that front.

A 737 replacement using 787 technology is still probably 3-4 years off. Believe me, unless Airbus announces an A32X replacement or major re-work, Boeing isn't going to move on the 737 for a minimum of 2 years.

As far as orders, it's rather tough to say. As already mentioned, Boeing lets the airlines decide when to announce an order. So if the airline wants to announce at the show, then so be it. If they don't, then so be that as well. That being said, if I were to have money on the line, I would put it on the following:

AF (777F)
EK and/or QR (787/777F/772LR)
NW (787)
as well as the firm signing of many of the announced 787 MOU's

Emirates & Qatar going for 787? As much as I'd love to see that, the closer Paris Air Show is, the more I'm convinced these two will go for A350-900... If they wanted 787, I'm sure they'd order it already... But until the announcement is made, I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Back to orders (a little fantasy, but let's see...)

Finnair - 787-8 x 10
Lufthansa - 787-3 x 20, A350-900 x 20
LOT - 787-8 x 6
JAL - 747-500 (a.k.a. 747Advanced) x 30
ANA - 747-500 x 20
Aer Lingus - A350-800 x 10
Iberia - A350-800 x 12, A350 - 900 x 10
Emirates - 777-300 x 20, A350-900 x 50
Qatar - A350-900 x 50
Singapore - 787-3 x 25

More than the above "fantasy", I'd like both Airbus and Boeing to publish concept-drawings for A320NG and 737 successor respectively...

If AM's Board agrees to get a third 772ER, perhaps the ILFC could add-on a firm order.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Iberia - A350-800 x 12, A350 - 900 x 10
Emirates - 777-300 x 20, A350-900 x 50
Qatar - A350-900 x 50
Singapore - 787-3 x 25

a bit too many I think!

Singapore Airlines announced they have no intention to order the A 350/B787 for now. Maybe in the future.

A big shocker would be the 747ADV with 150-200 orders attached to it.

Libyan Arab Airlines (desperatly needs new equipment and USA blessing)
Iraqi Airways (needs all new aircrafts after the destuction of their own)
Tunis Air (building a new airport with huge pax capacity expantion on horizon)
Etihad Airways (wants to compete with EK as the national airline of UAE)
Gulf Air (in the black now and predicting to have a biger share in the region)
Egypt Air (having made a profit for the first time in their history)
Kuwait Airways (jealouse from the other kids on the block)

How about the 747ADV for EK and QR. This could be a possibility as there are quite a lot 787´s ordered. Both Airlines need Aircrafts badly and fast.

My guess is that both go for 350´s.

Maybe Boeing will announce the development of a small jet below the B-737 built in collaboration with an ex-soviet a/c maker ? I think they will have to address the 747ADV whether or not they will build it. They cannot afford to hold out any more as they risk losing prospective customers. Otherwise I think they will show a concept of a twin isle narrow body or a short wide body to get input for a eventual 737 replacement. They might use the opportunity of the show to get feedback on what to do for 737 replacement without directly saying what they will do.

Is 50 airframes a number that's been rumored? That would be sweet.

I really believe that:
QR will buy the 787 - 30 firm + 30 option
EK 777-200LR and 787-900
ILFC 20 firm 787
LOT - 787 6 firm + 6 option
747ADV launch with orders from CX and JP
