Roughly $12M or so is awarded each year by DOT to help small communities improve air service. One application that is sure to get a lot of attention is that by Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY.
They have applied for a grant for $250,000 for marketing in a move that they hope will help lure them jetBlue service. They mention the ideal service as being five daily flights - one to Tampa and two each to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.
