thanks for the news.

It seems after years of waiting we'll have four A380's up in the air within about ten weeks!

super!

Thanks for the information Pihero. This is exactly the information I'm looking for. Please keep us updated on this, if possible. I am planning a weekend trip with my friends to TLS to photograph the A380 so I hope it will be there when we are there.

Are all these going to Airlines after testing, or will one stay with Airbus?

Quoting Pihero (Thread starter):

What's different about these engines?

Quoting NZ747 (Reply 6):

They are the engines made by GE & Pratt and Whitney called the GEnx GP7200, as opposed to the Rolls-Royce Trent 900's that power the current flying A380.

I believe the first airline using the GEnx engines will be EK? Can anyone confirm?
It's a beautiful night to fly like a phoenix...

Correct.

GE is running about two months behind certification tets on the GP7200 flying test bed.The first pair of engines will be delivered to AI in june, followed by a second pair in july.
Airbus then will start a 10 month test and validation campaign (400 hours) on MSN009,basically a repeat of similar tests which will be performed on 001 and 004.
This will be tight as the first two aircraft equipped with these engines have to be delivered to EK by the end of August 2006 for a first commercial flight in October.

As far as I know,AI will keep MSN001,to be used for improvements on the family.

Interesting times.

Hopefully Airbus will do a better job refurbishing the test aircrafts engines for the A380 then the A340-500 engines they refubished for Air Canada as the one Airbus used to test has had engine troubles ever since delivery and has had 2 engine changes.
