AA Flight Cancellation

Sat Apr 30, 2005 7:21 am

Last week my flight from LGA to DCA was cancelled by AA. I checked in and as I was wandering around the terminal I noticed from the screens that the flight had been cancelled. I checked with the staff at one of the gates to find out what had happened. They told me the flight had been cancelled early that morning.
Why was I checked in for a flight that had already been cancelled? What would have happened if I had not noticed the cancellation on the screen and turned up at the gate for my flight?

In any event, the lady at the gate where I asked about the flight re-booked me on the next plane out to DCA so no harm done.

Cheers

Most likely it was cancelled AFTER you checked in. They most likely annouced the cancellation at the gate, but since you weren't there, it was up to you to make sure that you were situationally aware.

If you read his post you see that it says the flight was cancelled earlier that morning, before he checked in.

I don't believe SABRE will check a customer in to a cancelled flight. It must have been cancelled after he checked in or there was a computer glitch of some sort involved here.

Could be too that the agent at the gate had no real idea when it was canceled.
She thought it was canceled in the morning and the truth in the matetr is that it wasnt. Trust me, in times past, I have had that happen where strange things like that happened and 2 different airline employees say 2 different things.

Nobody here can answer that question!

Ask AA...that's the best answer you're gonna get

It's not that hard to tell when a flight was cancelled. When you look at FLIFO (flight information) in Sabre, when a flight is cancelled, there's a remark showing that the flight was cancelled, why (usually mechanical or weather most of the time), and the time the flight was cancelled. THe only thing that MIGHT have screwed the employee is is that, if I recall, the "cancellation time" is done in zulu time, not local time.
