Airplane Types That Don't Serve AMS?

Sun May 01, 2005 9:55 pm

I'm planning a 3 day spotting trip this summer to AMS and was wondering which plane types are never seen at AMS. I don't care about the past, more like what I can expect this summer. What are rare visitors, (even just arriving for maintenance/painting), and on which day do the operate? I haven't been there for spotting since 1999, so your help is appreciated.

For example, have the TU-204 and the AN-224 ever operated to AMS?

Rarely seen at AMS: 346, 753, 345, 310, 717, 727, 732 plus most Russian built airliners except TU-154.

VS brings their 747's to AMS for Mx, but don't have mainline ops into AMS.

AN-224? If you mean AN-225, it has never visited The Netherlands.

Sorry, yes i mean the AN-225. You say that the 346 is a 'rare' visitor. Which airline does use them sometimes? And the 727 isn't allowed anymore is it?

Just a view 'rare' visitors to AMS, something like this I want to see..:

Hi KL911,

I thaught you live in the Netherlands looking at your nationality flag in your profile, but here's my advise:

- The A346 doesn't operate to AMS by any airline. The only time a A346 was at AMS was the emergency landing of VS.

- Russian aircraft: Besides the TU-154 you will also see an occasional Yak-42 while the An-12 is a regular visitor at AMS as well.

- Turkish airlines: As usual you will see lots of Turkish charter airlines operating to AMS in the summer. These airlines will arrive spread out through the day, but the peak 'Turkish' rush hour is between 20:00 and 0:00LT. Then you will see almost the entire G-Pier full of turkish airlines, one would even think you are in Türkiye  Wink Turkish charter airlines include: Onur Air, Fly Air, Pegasus, AtlasJet and Sun Express. THY is also known to use their A343 to AMS in the summer, although this is a rare sight.

- Other classics: You will see the regular classics as well, such as NW DC-10, IR 312/313, AMC AB3 and if you're really lucky Royal Air Maroc sends the 732 occasionally, but again, this is a rare sight. What is interesting, Royal Air Maroc also uses the 744 to AMS in the summer, I think every wednesday, but I'm not sure about the days.

AMC and Nouvelair are visiting AMS more frequently these days. I've also seen Air Memphis operating the A320 to AMS.

As for cargo airlines, there are always unusual cargo airlines at AMS, one being Ocean Air of Italy and GSS (British Airways Cargo) which I've seen a few times in the past months.

You can look up all arrivals/departures in the Schiphol Airport timetable available on-line on their website. Just go to the website and look up the timetable:

I forgot to mention this as well, Arkia also uses the 753 to AMS on a regular basis during the summer season.

Too bad it landed at 18C while I was at 18R, but I guess you can expect some pictures of it somewhere next week.

Great, because that's a beauty! Was it a one time thing, or is it scheduled now? ( Who is Aviastar btw? )

I think it was a one time thing, but who knows, it might fly here some more in the future.

Thanks!

Anyone else knows about the Aviastar TU-204? What do they do, and where do they fly to/from.
