VS A-380 Configuration

Tue May 03, 2005 6:49 am

The Virgin V-Flyer site has a seat map of the A-380:

Take a look (scroll to the bottom of the "aircraft" list):

http://www.v-flyer.com/aircraft.asp

Apparently, the first one will be registered G-VXXL  tongue

My apologies if this has been posted already. A cursory search indicated otherwise.

Interesting that they only operate two types of aircraft.

How appropriate!

Anyway, looks like Branson was bluffing with the whole idea of adding extra amenities to the A380. Oh well, we should have expected that.

EDIT: Just wondering, how accurate is that site? Maybe they just took the seating maps of the other planes and enlarged them.

Well, I counted a total of 535 seats, so it is not too full.

What do you think is the best place to seat. I am thinking that the upper deck towards the middle, or maybe slightly back a bit with a window seat would be the best.

You would get a great view of the wing, and it would be a view never before viewed since the 747 upper deck is forward of the wing.

Hi,

This seat map is not accurate. The design and layout has (and will probably continue to ) changed many times. There are a number of problems - most notably that the upper deck will not support a 1-2-1 configuration in upper class and that Premium economy should be 2-3-2 (not 2-2-2) if it stays on the upper deck. Because of the differences in cabin width the ideal scenario is to put upper class on one deck only as it would be configured 1-2-1 downstairs and 1-1-1 upstairs. There is also a differnce in the angle of the seats relative to the cabin. From a service perspective the upper deck is considered more "prestigious" but VS would want to be able to guarantee dual deck boarding at all destinations before proceding. Lastly you will see a much bigger bar area than is illustrated.

The seat plan shown has a few issues, it does say it's a "preliminary" seat plan.

There is only one bar for Upper Class, and it's downstairs. Means a bit of a schlep for the upper deck J pax who need a drink. Plus, it's a tiny little bar. So much for the vaunted onboard space and comfort.

Premium Y cabin seems very small, and sort of cut off up stairs.

I reckon for Y pax, the upper rear cabin wouldn't be too bad, although you'd have to wait about an hour and a half to disembark. Take a good book.

This is not how the 380 will be with VS. The latest I heard is that the whole Upper Deck will be J, with W and Y downstairs. But its a long way off yet and although I know the one on VFlyer will DEFINATELY not be our config (due to the missing "special areas" I know a little about), no-one knows exactly how it will turn up in 2007/8

Cheers

While VS will probably shift cabins here and there, I suspect the seat map is accurate enough to demonstrate that no carrier, including Virgin, plans to waste too much space for amenties. Just like the B747, DC10 and L1011 who's original configurations included all sorts of lounges, the cold hard reality is that none of those lounges lasted for more than a few years. Not only were they replaced by regular passenger seating, airlines like KLM took it one step further by installing seating at the overwing passenger door on their 747 aircraft for a while.

Don't get your hopes up... you'll only be dissapointed in the end.

I saw that a while ago, and the keep changing it, so I think they probably will have the things Richard Branson has said he would put on them.
Just wait and see.

Branson will make sure there is some stuff that hits the press & continues strenghtens the Brand. The bars on the 340 & 747 are bigger then the ones shown here..

However one interesting thing on this sketch, a stairs going down from the first floor..

SO where are all the bars and other ridiculous things branson was offering. I like Richard branson but I dont see why he needs to lie about info that can be easily searched on by the general public. It was fairly predictable this would happen but still he didn't need to lie  ashamed

Yet again someone who does not read the thread.

Let me say again, this is not a VS seat plan. It is instead an enthusiast from v-flyer.com who put it together.

V-flyer.com is not a Virgin website, it is run by enthusiasts for that airline.

Yes, one at the front of the plane and another one at the rear. Imagine if you had to walk the whole deck to go to the other deck?
