A330 Question

Thu Apr 13, 2000 9:42 am

Does the A330 have a slow cruising speed like it's big-brother? I'm just wondering because I've noticed it takes the A340 over 1 extra hour to fly from Vancouver to Hong-Kong compared to the 747.

Also, does the A330 have the same cross-section as the A340?

Thanks for your help

As far as I know the A330 cruises at M0.82, as opposed to the 747s M0.85.
However, because the A330 can't fly as far as either the 747 or A340, the difference in flight times between the 747 and A330 won't be that great on the routes it flies - and remember the A330 is faster than the M0.80 767!

The A300, A310, A330 and A340 all have the same cross section.

Hope that explains what you wanted to know

This Brings Another Question

Thu Apr 13, 2000 9:43 pm

If the A300 A310 A330 & A340 all have the same cross section, why is the A310 3-3-3 while the A330 and A340 are 2-4-2?

The A 310 has 2-4-2 in economy normally (e.g. the former Swissair aircrafts). , like the 300, 330 and 340 But like many things, it depends on the airline. I think you confused it with the 767 which has normally 2-3-2.

You may have been referring to the first class or business class when you said seating on the 767 was normally 2-3-2 but in the 767 the coach seating is 2-5-2 like the DC10 and L1011.

Coach seating on the 767 is 2-3-2. Business class is 2-2-2 and premium business seating is 2-2-1, taken from the Air Canada timetable.

Back to AC_A340's question, yes the A300/310/330/340 do all have the same cross section. They all normally seat 2-4-2, but Royal Airlines, being a charter and all, stuffs in 3-3-3 configuration in their 310's.

3-3-3

Same as in the UK,
Virgin's A340s are 2-4-2 in Economy
BUT
Air Scandic, Monarch and Airtours A300/A330s are 3-3-3

The diameter of the B 767 cabin is to small to have a 2-5-2 seating like in the DC 10. Almost all (?) B767 have a 2-3-2 seating in economy (e.g. AA). I think even a 2-4-2 seating is not possible. This is an advantage for the passenger.
