United's First Class!

Wed May 04, 2005 9:16 am

Are UA's first class seats on their domestic 777's identical to those on all other domestic aircraft's fc seats (like, a319,20,737,757,etc...)? If different...what are the differences. Has anyone flew them to Hawaii? What is the service like, meals, all other services..? Thanks!

I flew a domestic 777 from LAX to ORD two weeks ago and it felt exactly the same as domestic first on an A320 or B757. Nothing special.

Ya I went to KOA an UA. Where are you depating from? They use either 757's, 767's, or 777's on all Hawaii flights and service is basically the same as UA flights in the lower 48. I think the movie choices are different, but that's it.

On Hawaii flights they usually have Hawaiian style food although it still looks like the familiar chicken or beef. If you look in the pols and preferences forum most consider First to Hawaii not worthwhile, mostly because of the extra FF miles burned up. It is certainly nowhere near the service in 3 class first on UA flights between hubs or international.

My wife and I flew ORD-HNL on N215UA (777-222) in October, 2004 in First - 2H and 2J. I'm a big dude - 6' 2", 250 lbs, and I have to say it was worth it for me to upgrade. Also, getting to take my wife on a vacation in "first class" still has some prestige value. The mai tais are pretty good, too! Plus, on the way back on N212UA in 4H and 4J, the first seats are decent sleepers. No, they're not the fold-down kind that transform into a bed, but they're big enough that you can get somewhat comfy. Ambien helps, too!

If you get a bulkhead or exit row seat in UA's Economy Plus section, that might be just as good for you, but I was happy with the decision to upgrade and I'd do it again. Hope that helps!
