Airbus And Boeing!

Wed May 04, 2005 6:00 pm

Good day folks. I don't always write on here very often but when I find a post that is interesting, I will hit it up. The future looks bright for aviation and those of us that are TRUE aviation enthusiasts. Yes I am from the United States but that does not mean that I have total loyalty everything American all the time. I do love all types of airplanes, some more than others. Although my username is that of a FedEx flight out of ONT, California because that is where I worked for the past 3 years, I now work for DHL. We operate an Astar 727 and an ABX Air 767. I spend every afternoon out at the 727, to hear that awesome sound every single day is truly an experience. The 727 is one of the best looking aircraft around. I like the design of the wing and the tail. Our other a/c on the other hand is not as interesting to look at. The 767 is a nice plane but I would much rather see an A330/340, DC/MD-10, MD-11, 747, or even an A380, YES an A380, that airplane is indescribable. I don't care how the politics of the industry affect the actual airplane itself. When I sit at the In-N-Out on Sepulveda near LAX, I don't look at that China Eastern A340-600 and say to myself wow that airplane sucks because it was built with subsidies from European countries, i just think that it is so cool to look at an airplane that massive and be in awe that something that weighs so much can become airborne. Yes I do believe that Airbus does receive subsidies from different European nations but to think that Boeing does not recieve anything from the U.S. government is to be totally naive. Both companies build great products, it is not as if Airbus or Boeing airplanes just fall out of the sky.

Last week I stayed up until 0130 local time, last wednesday to witness the first flight of the A380 on television, wish I could have been there but at least I will get the chance to see one at LAX sometime. I felt alot of pride as a human being to see that airplane take off, yes it is not the most attractive A/C around but that is ok because it has a look all its own. For those who wished that it would have failed last week are just a disgrace to people everywhere, no matter what nationality. How could you root for something bad to happen to the 380, the airplane itself has nothing to do with the politics that might have brought it about, it was merely an aircraft, begging so to speak, to take flight, it did and I am glad and excited for the folks at Airbus who brought her to life. Those are the same feelings I will have for Boeing when the 787 takes flight. I have no doubt it too will be just as successful on its first flight as the 380.

I know some of you will read this and think I am full of crap and some of you might not. Some might think that I know nothing about what I am stating. To let you in on a little secret, I am 24 years old and have been working with a/c since I was 4 years old, no joke. I used to work the Emery 727's and DC-8's at ONT with my dad. My uncle is also a captain for Delta, flying and airplanes are not just a hobby with me, they are my life. I grew up with them, I have worked on nearly every aircraft around from Boeing to MCD to Lockheed, Convair, Canadair and Airbus. To me, an Airplane is an Airplane, I don't care what country they are made in, they all have my respect and I would love to fly anyone of them.

I apologize if I have bored anyone here but this is just something I had to say.

Climb and Maintain flight level 280, DHL 200, good day

Believe me, when you'll see it in real at LAX, you'll find it a bit less ugly... Especially with the appropriate livery...

FX1816... May I just congratulate you on what must be the most sensible post on Boeing/Airbus and aviation in general for a long time on these internet forums. If only more people could share your outlook. If you don't mind, I am going to add you as the first person on my list of respected users.

Well done!

Hey Ryan,

it was very nice to read your post. I agree fully with you. Amazing what do you have experienced already in the aviation. Really nice! Would have loved to do stuff as you did.
I love even both- Airbus and Boeing. Lets hope those good company's will always go on to produce amazing aircrafts for the world airtraffic.

I started today's lunch reading your post and the start couldn't have been better. Like fellow-A.netters stated before me: not boring at all (on the contrary) and unbiased.

Spcecially liked that one! Like you said very well: big events such as these are world-achievements. They show what human beings are capable of. Just like Inca-temples, Pyramids, mega-structures like Golden Gate, the Millau viaduct, etc., etc...

Hey, great post.....really positive message that sums up how many of us feel, despite the fact that those who berate either boeing or airbus seem to take of a.net sometimes. About to head to work at LHR and this is a great way to start.

Cheers and welcome to my respected users list.

WOW, very nice post FX1816. Can't agree more on how you put it. An aircraft is an aircraft, doesn't matter who manufactures it. Like AMSSpotter said, this post is 'not boring at all (on the contrary) and unbiased'. Very well said my friend. I have added you to my respected users list.

Congratulations, you have the clearest and cleanest concept of aviation; you are a real enthusiast on the matter.

It does not matter whether you are a strict Airbus or Boeing fan, it matters that you have a feel and wonder for all the awe inspiring aspects of aviation from around the world without prejudice.

Actually I am a Manager with DHL so I go to the 727 and I coordinate the load plan with our hub in CVG.

I did however use to work the bellies throwing bags and freight. I was a supervisor at FedEx for 2 years and so I mainly made sure the job was done right.

FX1816, great post. I have followed this forum for some time, and whenever Airbus and Boeing appear on the same line (anywhere in any of the posts), there is usually an acrimonious exchange that ensues. I am so glad to see a post that highlights how true aviation enthusiasts should view aviation. Good job!! I hope we can see more of these with more constructive dialog and less flames and fire.

Very positive message although I don't agree with the fact that you assumed people wanted the a380 to fail. I don't think anyone wants a plane to fail.

By the way, I like to go to that In-n-Out just so I can see that China Eastern flight. This might be odd but I am always amazed at how smaller that a346 looks in real life than on the pictures.

I tend to think all major airplane manufacturers take hand-outs from their governments, directly or indirectly.

Purdue has a 737 and a 727. A couple of our classes use these planes as static trainers. We also have 2 727 simulators and we are expecting on getting a 737-800 simulator at some point in the future.  Smile

Wow...what a great post. Even though I work for Boeing (On the C-17 program), I was very excited about the A380's first flight. I believe fierce competition between both companies is the reason why we are seeing so many advances in commercial aviation now. Engineering marvels such as the 777-200LR, 787, A380, A330/340 and others will benefit all of us. I stayed up to watch the first flight, and I must admit, the A380 really is a beautiful aircraft, and living close to LAX, I'm looking forward to seeing them alot in the near future. We are only at the begining of what will be a revolution in air travel and aircraft development, as both Boeing and Airbus will bring to the table outstanding products for a long time to come.

Much respect to you FX1816. If only there were more people like you, the world would be a better place  Smile.

No seriously, there are quite a few people on this forum who want to see the A380 or the 787 fail. Even if they say "it" might fail. That can be defined as a thinly veiled reference. I think those people should seriously consider why they make seriously stupid posts like that.

We should all learn that aviation is about pioneering and finding new frontiers. It's not about who says what it better. Who can say with 100% certainty something will fail? No one can. Not one of you.

You couldn't be closer mate. Right on. It is only because there is so much competition that we are flying more passengers farther, faster and more efficiently.

No need to apologize cuz. Every aeroplane that has been built has served it's purpose well and has somehow contributed to the advancement in aviation. That in my view, it what makes aviation so great.

Hey FX1816, Great Post!! I grew up with the latter Douglas propliners, the Viscounts, Vanguard, Brittanias, Convairs, and Lockheeds. I loved them all, still do. Ya know, it never occurred to me to ask "who made them". I don't care, they're airplanes, their beautiful and that's all that matters to me.

mega-structures like Golden Gate,

hey..I live a few blocks away from it  bigthumbsup

on a more serious note....I agree with the first post......actually, even though I bash The Leviathan in ceratain ways, I also was up at 1:30 to watch it take off, I've even signed up on SQ's website to fly on it....

For me, having lived by 27R approach at ORD, and sitting on Pan Am's 747 at the age of four (I actually remember the flight more than 3 decades ago, I sat next to the window and accidentally spilled my coke.hehe)I've been fascinated by planes....

I've been fortunate to fly on many civilian aircrafts, including a VC-10 from LHR-ISB  biggrin , but one of my biggest mistakes was not to fly on The Concorde, ..I certainly won't make that mistake with the A346 and A380......(flown on A343's and A345's already) and other planes..

While I have my views on Airbus and The Leviathan, I'm glad to see it exist, as it brings competion to the field and benefits all people...in science/aeronautics/engineering/flying/spotting, etc..

Also, I've been flamed as a pro boeing poster....while I love boeing aircrafts, I have many times posted that airbus indeed make quality products.....some people prefer hondas, some prefer toyota...both make quality cars and both have their respective "cheerleaders"...

Anway, even though for every one good post here, there are a million idiotic and asinine posts ( to which I probably contribute to), its posts like these which make me realise why I love aviation so much and why I come to this site..

ok.i'm done..
