Which Aircraft Do You Identify Most Strongly With?

Thu Apr 13, 2000 6:33 pm

It would have to be the b747 for me. I remember when I was a young child, anticipating the flight on an Air France 747. I would travel there each summer to visit family. The plane made me feel safe and special, and helped to breed my love for aviation.

L-1011 TriStar

Thu Apr 13, 2000 8:39 pm

For quite similar reasons it has to be the L-1011 TriStar for me.
My first flight as a six-year old back in 1981 was on board one of those beautiful red-white LTU TriStars from DUS to AGP. For the next ten years, my family always started and ended our vacation on board of a L1011.

Hi, for me it's the Boeing 747-400 from BA.

My first longhaul flight was on a BA 747-400 from LHR to LAX, and it was just great.

I had a seat on the upper deck and the seats where quite large, even with PTV's (which were not working though).....and this was supposed to be WorldTraveller...and this was a long time ago (about 7 years)!
Well, I guess it was kind of an interim Club World/World Traveller class.

I also had my first cockpit visit on this flight, over the beautiful white landscape of Greenland.

It was just great!

Regards,

For Me ATR72

Thu Apr 13, 2000 10:04 pm

ATR 72 (LOT Polish Airlines SP-LFG) was the first a/c I have ever flown. I often spot this particular plane in my hometown- Poznan as it serves the routes: Warsaw- Poznan- Dusseldorf and Warsaw-Poznan- Copenhagen.

This is a tough one!

I guess it would have to be the 747-400 simply because I regard it with such awe...it's truly magnificent.

However, I have special fondness for 707s and DC-8s and the L-1011 (which was my first wide-body flight). My first flight was on a DC-9-10, on TW, from CLE to IND so I guess there's a special place in my heart for that airplane too.

(But I do love those 757s!)

It feels a bit strange to IDENTIFY myself as a human being with an airplane... sometimes when I have put on weight andthink to diet again, I feel like an Airbus 310. When I feel great and energic, I more feel like a 757 or MD-80, and when I'm a bit sluggish, it would be an Airbus 340. I sometimes compare my neighbor, an older graceful -but chainsmoking- woman, with a Boeing 707.

I think that I would have to say the B-727. It was the first aircraft I flew on with Air Canada. It was my first trip to Florida and I first flew on it from St. John's to Toronto. Then my second was the B-747-200 series. I was in total awe seeing the sise of that aircraft!! I couldn't believe how big it actually was!! WOW
But the first one I would have to idintify with would have to be the De Havalliand comet seeing that it was the pioneer of the Jet Age. It brought us here today!! To bad it was not a comercial sucess, because I like the look of the engines molded into the wings instead of the pods under the wing. Also the Avro C-102 Jetliner was the same way with the engines molded into the wing. To bad nothing came of that one ither!!

CV880 or L1011.
Great potential, generally well liked by people, some very strong points but hindered by the weaknesses. Not very good with hard nosed competition. Never achieved that potential. Now just too old to fight at all.

I also miss TWA's TriStars. I'm more like a Virgin A340-300 in new colors beacuse I like being diferent and apart from the rest. But when I was a child I related with TWA's 747-200 and Pan Am's 747-200 because I would fly them reguraly with my family JFK-LHR.

BOAC VC-10.

Never got to fly on one, but it is the first airliner I can re-call seeing, at Heathrow when I was very young.

In the BOAC colour scheme, this aircraft is truely the most graceful airliner ever to fly. Ironic that it was BOAC that crapped on it from a great height and stopped it being the 750 unit airplane it should have been.

For me, it's the DC-8 Series 40. I saw one as a young boy, in Trans-Canada Airlines colours. It was love at first sight, and started an interest in aviation that has never stopped.

DC-6 wow! I first rode on one transpacific when I was a little kid. I think the airline was called "20th Century" anybody know about them? I also flew on Aereonaves de Mexico from TIJ to MEX. I love the sound of those big round engines, the rare occassions I see one at the airport (Northern Air Cargo) I always drift back to when I was a little kid, and caught the airplane bug.

Like a few others, I would have to say the L1011, even though I have never flown on it. There's something graceful about the way they look, and they were so far ahead of their time.

It has to be the MD11! My first long haul flights to Thailand when I was 3 or 4. Those long 13 hour flights on the old Swissair business class with the toilets and a self service snack bar (away from the galley) at the back of. If you did not have a window seat you could look out the small windows on the emergency exit. You would not have crew constantly staring at you the moment you stood up. I used to watch those beautifull lights on the wing flashing. Everytime they flashed you could just see MD11 written on the winglet (It was the old livery and that is since gone) I miss it so much

The aircraft that I feel the most strongly about is the McDonnel Douglas MD-80. It was the first airplane I ever flew on. (An American Airlines plane) I remember seeing the cockpit and staring in awe at the instruments. I feel safe aboard it. It feels sturdy and even though the wings wobble a little bit, it feels as solid as any bigger plane. I like the size of it. I often fly into LaGuardia aboard a MD-80 and I feel perfectly confident when the wheels hit the ground and the reversers flare up that that plane is going to land without coming up short at all.

Probably the B747. The last 5 flights I took were a B747 and my first flight overseas just recently from JFK to LHR was on a B747. Every time I look in the sky and see either a B747 or I think I see the Virgin Atlantic logo, I always wish I was up in the friendly skies.

For me it is the L1011 - Tristar. Flew on it quite a bit in childhood days between Toronto & St. Lucia (caribbean) . Loved flying back than and love it just as much today. The L1011 was flown by BWIA and still flies today.

For me, it would have to be the L-1011. When I was about 6, my family was taking me to Disney World in Florida. We were going from DFW to MCO and we were sitting in a bar and grill eating before our connecting flight at DFW and I saw this awesome plane. To me, it was huge, and I thought it was so neat with the 3rd engine. Well, when we got to the gate, the plane we were to take to MCO was a 767, but that was plenty big for my first time on a wide-body. However, on the return trip from MCO to DFW, I got a big suprise. We came to our gate, but it was one of those gates where you cant really see the planes. Then, I tried looking above the jetway to see the tail and when I did, I was extremely excited to see that #2 inlet. I can remember going in that plane and seeing so many seats and that the configuration was 2-5-2. We had some friends with a girl my age that went to Disney World with us and they flew American and got a 767 to and from DFW. But I could brag about the L-1011 that we got. Next would have to be the 747-400. I love this plane. In fact, I am going to have my first flight on it next month. UAL 747-400, LAX-HKG. Im really excited.

The 757-300. Here's why:

1. The 753 is long and narrow. I am tall and slender.

2. It's got a real pointy nose. I always poke my nose into other people's business.

3. It is over-powered. I have a lot of muscle considering I'm tall and slender.

The 737-200 And The L1011 TriStar

Sun Apr 16, 2000 2:56 am

The Boeing 737-200 and the L1011 are the two a/c I most strongly identify with. I used to fly on these planes quite a bit as a boy. CPAir had 737 flights to Grande Prairie from YEG until the early '80s, so that's where I flew on them most of the time. True, it's loud and old now, but it's one helluva workhorse. Most recently, on February 18-21, I went on a WestJet 737-200 from YEG to Grande Prairie and back to visit my family there for the weekend. This relived my memories of the CP 737 flights to the North.

The L1011-500 was the prime workhorse for Air Canada from YEG and YYC to LHR. Since I have relatives in the UK, I used to go with my family from YEG to LHR on these planes. They were even nicer than the CP DC-10-30s I have been on, especially with the seats.

Mine would definitly have to be the 777.

After growing up in Seattle during the five most important years of the 777's growth (92-97), for the first time, I was truly able to witness the birth of an airliner. We have so many ties to Boeing, both from our family and from our friends that we were constantly invited to tour the 777, see production, etc., but the topper was the 777 rollout!! The rollout was the thing that "sold" me on the plane. About two months later, we were invited again to tour one of the testplanes decked out in UA colors at BFI. W-O-W! The cargo holds are gigantic, the cabin (even with test equip. and water barrels) was amazing, and the seats that UA was planning on installing looked and felt so comfortable!!

The 777 is truly a dream...
