Fantastic!
It's very nice to see the 9W colours on a widebody, very classy IMO.
Can't wait to them in EWR... might have to make a special trip down to catch them.

Cheers,

Great picture, I was waiting to see the 340 in the new livery. I guess this should be the first airbus in 9W's fleet after the 35 Boeings and 8 ATR's. Isn't it the first A340 in India's tricolor? So, it is very special.

I have a question here. I just did a search on its previous registration here (ZS-SXD) on a.net and only two pictures popped up. This aircraft was apparently painted in November 2004 in new SAA colors (6 months ago?) and now its being sold/leased to 9W? Whats up with that? Does anyone know?

Here are both of those pictures:

Heard that SA got a great deal from Airbus which thy just couldn't resist. But later I guess they didn't want to use those aircraft. I could be wrong though. Seems like they thought they could make more money leasing it out.

Nice pic and nice livery!

In my view, this livery makes the A340 look slimmer and the engines look a lot less like hairdryers.

I just love the elegance a classic livery brings. Schemes with window lines make the few A340s that wear them look exceptionally sharp!

Very nice to see an airline that keeps their nice livery and doesn't switch to a boring white fuselage for a change! How refreshing!  yes

9W offered SAA more money (significantly above market rates) to sub-lease the aircraft for 2 years than SAA was paying Airbus. Since SAA is currently running operationally negative, the sound financial decision was to simply sublease the aircraft out and make more money doing that than by operating them in the current environment with high fuel prices.

Like NYC777 said, I can't wait to see 9W in 777 or 787 colors either. But this A340 looks absolutely stunning in 9W colors as well. Can't wait to see it in person.

Is this aircraft going to fly the US route? If so, as much as I dislike flying the 343s , I will give them a try next year..just because of their awesome inflight service.

Cheers to 9W

I agree with you. The livery is boring. Looks like SQ plane with an "Broken Egg" logo in the tail... but.. it is one of the best airlines I have ever flown.
Their domestic service is amazing. The staff is genuinly friendly on land and on-board. When you start approaching their counter they start smiling and the smiles never stop. When we had delays (due to the famours Delhi fog) they were coming to the lounge frequently and updating the passengers, one by one, about the status of the delay. The planes are all new, the food is excellent (provided by SQ catering according to the label) and they always had a choice of vegetarian and non-veg meals for each passenger in coach. You get meals even in flights that last 45minutes.
I am so happy that they finaly got the chance to fly internationaly. India needed such an airline to represent them.

I have to agree that their livery is boring and the yellow sun does look like a broken egg yolk.

But they have a fantastic inflight product. AI's livery with Jet's service would make for a cool airline. It would be nice to see Jet's female inflight crew in sarees instead of those Stepford Wife western uniforms, but all the same, it's great that the GOI finally woke up and let a private carrier fly half way across the globe.

Congrats to Jet Airways.
I flew them for the first time in 1995 and again in 2002. Their inflight service is excellent and their cabin crews/pursers/flight attendants are all top notch.
Their performance has caused IC to improve their performance in order to stay competitive.

So, domestic air travel has improved in India, and 9W has a lot to do with it.
Good luck to them as they embark on European/American travels.

I will cut 9W slack that I would never give to AI. 9W is only 12 years old, has come a long way, has excellent staff and equipment, and makes flying a pleasure.

So while flying 9W intercontinental doesn't make sense time wise right now because of the THREE STOP from America to South India (DFW-EWR-BRU-BOM-MAA), I still respect them greatly.

Thanks for a being a smartaXX, though!!

Hopefully when they do offer such a service, they'll coordinate the timings so that there's not more than a 1-2 hour wait at BOM on inbound and outbound, and there's a daily schedule in place. That would make it work! They should be able to do that given they have all the 737s sitting idle at night, and have sufficient connectivity to BOM during the day. Of course, if they believe there's no market out of BLR/MAA/HYD, then we can forget about a smooth "stopover" in BOM, but hopefully their market research will show up what I believe to be the truth  Wink

On the other hand, Jet is one of the best airlines of the world and I am happy that finally they will run the international routes. I quite enjoy the western outfits of 9W's female flight attendants.

Heck, in Madras, there's probably only two ways to see female legs in public; one of the ways is to board a 9W flight!! The other way...go to a cinema theater (theatre) and watch a Bollywood/Tamil Masala movie!!  Smile
