UA: New Service To LIR. Twice A Week

Thu May 05, 2005 10:00 pm

According to local news, United Airlines will be servicing LIR twice a week.

The information was given as a headline only, so unfortunatelly I don't have additional one.

Indeed. Many good hotels in the area (Four Seasons) is among the bests. Marinas, restaurants... It's a place for foreigners, not locals.

I recently saw a tv documental about famous people visiting the are. Di Caprio was the last one few days ago.

US Airways serves Liberia weekly from Charlotte, increasing to 4x weekly this summer.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

NW serves LIR as well, Saturday-only A319 service, however I don't know whether from MSP or DTW.

It is from Minneapolis. All of the cartel carriers except United fly to Liberia - AA from Miami, CO from Houston, DL from Atlanta, US from Charlotte, and NW from Minneapolis.

It increases aircraft utilization. That's the best thing for them to be doing.

LIR isn't super low-yield. Costa Rica is a relatively expensive leisure destination, comparatively.

I am going there at the end of this month for five days. Flying DL out of ATL.

Just place your cursor over the LIR and it will tell you...... Wink

Are you kidding?

Liberia is quite the high-yielding destinations. It is an upscale resort area on Costa Rica's Pacific coast.

Opening a new station, especially international does not come cheap. In addition, why cant they "utilize" the aircraft on other routes with proven high demand?

Let me know how it is... I really want to go as well, its supposed to be a paradise for the gays as well as the straights. Finding particularly gay-friendly tropical resorts on the Atlantic is sometimes challenging.

United's lack of service to Liberia has been a missing spot for a long time. Its a pretty high demand area with limited service.

My guess is that they will make arrangements with US Airways to handle the flights.

Pretty standard nomenclature for them...

UA has not been hiring staff at its many recent fun/sun leisure destinations it has opened. It makes use of 3rd party handling agencies. Besides the direct handling charges, carrier does not experience much additional cost.

The only one missing a pice of the action is TA... They should come up with a SAL-LIR a couple days a week to feed LAX, SFO, etc traffic...

Can we suppose a 319 for the UA ORD-LIR run? or a 320?
