Apparently no big deal...

TAMPA - United Airlines Flight 151 made an unscheduled -- if uneventful -- stop in Tampa this morning after smoke onboard the plane interrupted the flight from Denver to Miami.

"The pilot has reported an emergency onboard the plane because of smoke in the cockpit," Capt. Bill Wade of Tampa Fire Rescue told Action News as the plane approached Tampa.

The alert prompted a full response on the ground at Tampa International Airport. Large airport fire trucks were deployed along Runway 18R, but the gray Airbus 319 made a seemingly flawless landing and rolled past them to the terminal.

The plane had 82 people onboard, according to airport officials, and after brief repairs was expected to continue on to Miami later this morning.

There was no word on the source of the smoke.

KL911,

I would guess it was not fire if it was only a brief repair.

More likely, it was condensation or overheated oil/lubercants in the ventilation system's motors, a bad sensor or switch or a up to some shorted wire. All are serious when at 30,000 feet, even if the cause turns out to be minor.
