AMMAN (JT) — The Yamamah 430 made its maiden flight this week, Seabird Aviation Jordan L.L.C (SAJ) announced.
Seabird's Chief Test Pilot Captain Muwafaq Al Khalaylah took the light aircraft on its successful maiden flight over the skies of Amman from Marka Airport on Wednesday, according to an SAJ statement.
The Yamamah is factory-built under licence in Jordan from components supplied by the design authority, Jabiru Pty of Australia,
The aircraft will be supplied with full warranty by SAJ for customers throughout the Middle East, North Africa and the Caucasus, the statement said.
The Yamamah, made from composite materials, is both light and very sturdy. Powered by a 120hp engine producing a cruise speed of 200kph, and a range in excess of 1,000km, the Yamamah 430 would take about two hours to complete the journey from Marka to Aqaba.
It is type-approved and certificated in the normal category by the Jordanian Civil Aviation Authority, which has been working in cooperation with the South African Civil Aviation Authority and the Australian Civil Aviation and Safety Authority.
SAJ Commercial Operations Manager Omar Massarweh said the “planned output would be 20 Yamamah per year, though this could be increased if the demand is strong.”
SAJ has already received a letter of intent for the purchase of one aircraft from a customer in the Kingdom and is in discussions with a flight academy in the region for a quantity of aircraft, according to the statement.
“We are taking orders now and would welcome inquiries from private pilots and all those interested... for whom we can enable demonstration flights and air experience here in Marka,” Massarweh added.
Originally a joint venture between Seabird Aviation Australia (SAA) and the King Abdullah II
Design and Development Bureau (KADDB), SAJ is now wholly owned by KADDB.
The company will manufacture, supply and support both Jabiru and Seabird products under an exclusive 25-year manufacturing licence agreement for Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia the statement concluded.
