YVR Strikes A GOL?

Sat May 07, 2005 5:40 am

Driving past the Air Canada main hangar at YVR yesterday, in addition to the usual AC aircraft and a CX 744 (in the hangar itself, a maintenance problem?), there was a 737NG wearing GOL livery. I know that GOL's rapidly expanding, but I'm wondering how one of theirs got so far from home! Anybody know what the plane was doing in YVR?

Isn't YVR near the B737NG factory?
My guess is that the GOL plane is a brand new and had something to be fixed before flying to Brazil.
GOL may be doing charters, But a Brazil - YVR charter on a B737NG?!

You're sure it was a 73G and not a 732?
AFAIK at least one of Zip's ex-732s was to be operating for GOL.

Kaz, it was definitely a 737NG with winglets.

Perhaps AC installed the winglets?

Around here there is a rumour saying GOL is to receive either an ex-Aloha or ex-Alaska 73G with winglets.

I remember AC doing some work for Aloha in their North hangar, so maybe thats a clue.

For the record, GOL operates 73Gs, 738s and 733 classics, no 737-200s.

I saw the GOL 737NG on Wednesday too, in Air Canada's hangar and wondered why it was there. I assumed Air Canada was doing third party maintenance on it.
There was an all white 757 at YVR on Wednesday, it departed at about 10:30. Does anyone know who it belongs to?

If it's the one I saw at YOW last week with no markings and no legible US reg, then it belongs to the US military.

I think Cathay's 747 was a freighter ! Both aircraft had winglets.

There is a Cathay 747 in Air Canada's south hangar today, May 18. Anybody know what's up with that?

The GOL 73G apparently left YVR last Saturday to Belo Horizonte in Brazil, via Aruba. Aircraft is now registered PR-GID.

Aircraft seems to be ex-Aloha N745AL.

why would they get used ac´s?? they just ordered a lot of brand new ones.

Maybe a short term lease to do GRU-EZE, they´re getting good on that route.

I also heard from a GOL's captain that they are getting 5 73NG in the next few months. But i am not sure if they would be all brand new.

Cheers

And note that the a/c has winglets...all recent additions of GOL have winglets, which means that GOL is planning to fly further away! [wouldnt be surprise to see a route such as MAO-MIA!].

Easy tiger, think they have better places to fly within south-america first.

Wouldn´t be bad at all to see MAO-MIA, specially for cargo.

Thats not really clear, I'm hearing mixed observations about winglets in their fleet. Once they started receiving their 73Gs they considered winglets as unecessary to their needs.
The only reason they have WL-equipped now aircraft is obviously because the only ones readily available where those returned by ATA and tha Aloha bird. The ATA 738's even have HUDs, but I'm not sure if GOL uses them though.

What I've heard is that as soon as they begin receiving their new fleet directly form Boeing, most - if not all - of their current fleet will be let go, and that these new-builds wont have winglets installed.

I've even heard the contrary; that they are receiving 5 more classics, and plan on keeping all of them for several years.

man, if this is true, doesn´t make anysense.
Why have 732 if U have a fleet plan of 737G 737NG only?! the 737-300´s are here to help while the NG´s don´t arrive, they will return it next year, if I´m not wrong.

Also, why take Zip´s 732 if VP 732 are all parked in Brazil??they must be real cheap I think.

hardy, HUD isn´t the short for Help Unit Display??? think I´ve seen it somewhere.

HUD = Heads Up Display
Its a screen similar to a sunscreen that acts similar to an LCD display for the primary flight instruments. A little piece of fighter jet technology filtering down to the civil market. Do a search in the photo database and I'm sure you'll come across a photo or 2.

Hardi, found it man, sorry.
Translated from Jetsite, if U can read in Portugues check here:
http://www.jetsite.com.br/2004/busca_terminologia.asp?termo=todos

HUD:
Head-up display, mirrors system that projects vital data of the aircraft to the front windsheild so the pilot can fly looking up (head-UP).

hope that helps, from what I understand is this.

Hi Erikwilliam,
I think you're confusing the "classics."
"Classic 737s" are of the -300 variety. For some reason the title was not given to the older -100/200 model.
Thus, GOL does not have any 737-200s in their fleet, and their -300s are ex-UA and LH.

And note the HUD:
