"787 Launch Customer" When Just A Cust?

Sat May 07, 2005 12:38 pm

As happy as most A-net fans are over the successful launch of a real game changer.. The B787 Family, my question is, OK, at what point do they become just regular customers? If the demand for this plane is so great, isn't it time for Boeing to start getting more $$ for the plane and forgo the hoopla of calling everyone a launch customer and giving assumed discounts on a plane that many feel currently has no peer?

Ciao for now... K

Maybe Boeing is giving discounts intill they feel that they sold enough at discount prices, or intill boeing know that there will be enough flying the skys for other airlines to be keen on it, or maybe the discounts are for the airlines that have already payed a refundable deposit. Later one is the most likly

Or maybe Boeing is giving smaller discounts than we know about...

Naw... not likely based on the gossip here that B is trying to steal as many A cust as possible. Who really knows? But enough of the "launch customer" hype. Or is this pretty normal for a new a/c?

Every customer that orders before the plane rolls out is a launch customer. At least that makes sense. You are "launching" the airplane.  Wink

Normally you give discounts on products that don't yet exist because no matter who is selling there is still a leap of faith involved. Heck, paying in advance of receiving is often a leap of faith depending on the profitability of the vendor. Once it is flying the discounts will probably go down.
