Two days ago after the compleation of the first leg of a two legged flight, the chief FA came in the cockpit and told to the captain that she has just been informed by the union leaders and they are leaving the airplane since all the staff has started a strike.
Captain said if thats their legal rights they are free to go.The unpleasent thing was they left the airplane with an old couple-which the man was coming back from a hearth surgery- was still on the plane and was waiting for an ambulift to pick him up.But they didnt since they were on strike. Two technicians and I helped him to disembark the airplane stairs.
During the day we waited-as the pilots of the flight- until the end of our legal duty time and as there were nobody to refuel and load our airplane our flight is cancelled. The passengers were trapped on the gate area since they had compleated the passport formalities now they were not allowed to leave the waiting launge. And there were nobody to explain them what was going on.It was totally caos down in the waiting lounge, people were getting angry.
The strike ended 24 hour after it started, many people stranded at the airport.Lots of them missed their connecting flights.
I personally have great respect for everybodies right to ask for their rights but this type of action was a little bit unfair for the passengers. After all they are not the ones responsible for the loss of the workers rights. And definetely the behaivour of my crew to a heart surgery patient was disgusting.I really dont feel good by calling them a part of my crew.Never in my 5 years of airline flying I saw such a thing.Strange but I guess this the way the things go in Cyprus.
Still I hope the best for all the workers who deserve to get the best what for they do.I hope the talks end up in the best way and nobody has to suffer like this again.
