Tue May 10, 2005 1:58 am

Hi,
this just came out of justplanes.com:

Air Canada flight AC008, an Airbus A340-300 bound for Vancouver, was forced to make an emergency return to Hong Kong yesterday after smoke was detected on board. The aircraft landed safely around 40 minutes after it took off.

any more info?

also on justplanes:
A Japan Airlines Boeing 747-400, operating flight JL047, en route from New York's JFK Airport to Tokyo's Narita Airport was forced to make an emergency landing at Sapporo's Chitose Airport on the island of Hokkaido yesterday shortly before 1400 after the air pressure in the cabin started to lower. The aircraft was flying at 33.000 feet and made a descent to 9.900 feet with oxygen masks released. Also on Sunday another JAL flight from Nagoya to Manila was rerouted to Osaka's Kansai Airport after its altimeter malfunctioned.

Do a search, this is the 3rd thread on this incident.

Here's one of them...
AC008 Emergency Landing In HKG (by N754PR May 8 2005 in Civil Aviation)

I also think there is a thread about the JL incident somewhere.
