Any Updates On UA's Ditching Of Awac?

Hey all,
Is there any updated information UAL's getting rid of AWAC? Have any flights been dropped and/or switched over to other express carriers yet? When will changes start to occur? and what will some of the first changes be? Thanks!

In a nutshell,

Other carriers will not start taking over until August. Under the agreement that ZW has with UA, the transition will be begin in August. At that time, some CRJ's in use with United Express will begin flying for USAirways express. Initial focus cities look to be PHL, PIT, and DCA, with some sizable ops in BOS and LGA as well. The transition will take place over a period of months. The 146's will stay in service through next winter for the Ski Season to give UA time to figure out how to replace the routes. At the same time the Ground Handling in ORD will be taken over by mainline, and handling at a few outstations, which I believe off the top of my head were ASE, CID, MLI, and SDF will go to other carriers. ZW will continue to ground handle in 14 outstations as well as over the wing handling at IAD.

In a related story it has been reported in what I beleve was ATW (not sure on that), that GOJets does not yet have their operating certificate, and they will have to obtain that before they do any UA flying.

One good thing about this agreement with US is that with US we are partners as we own a stake in them, unlike before where we were UA's slave.

You said that Air Wisconsin will focus on LGA, DCA, PIT, and PHL. Have you heard this from a reliable source or is it just through-the-grapvine. I figured you folks would be taking over Mesa's flying which seems to focus more heavily on CLT than any other USAir hub. Let me know please.

I have heard PHL, PIT, and DCA from high level management at ZW. I do emphasize that is subject to change. LGA is just based on a mock route map I saw, which makes sense given the route structure, but I don't know the source of that. But PHL, PIT, and DCA definitely came from management, based on meetings they had with PSA, Piedmont, and US.

We could be very helpful in case of a US-HP merger, since it was rumored they would want a midwest focus, and we have been based in the midwest for a long time.

Thanks for the info! A mock-up map? Did it show any particular routes out of LGA?

If UA goes under, AWAC will get the last laugh.
"If the facts do not conform to the theory, they will have to be disposed of"
