Mexicana A318s To YYZ

Wed May 11, 2005 11:57 am

I was at YYZ this evening when MX886 landed. I was surprised to see that the plane was an Airbus A318. I am wondering how long MX has been using these 'Baby Buses' on their MEX-YYZ route.

I think these planes are rotated among YUL, ORD and YYZ depending on the loads.

With respect to MX's Canadian destinations, I may be wrong but I think that while MX has great loads to YUL and to YVR most of the time, YYZ is a little weaker probably because of AC. Sometimes we get an A319 and a 767 on the same day from AC.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Thanks EddieDude, I noticed that there were photos of MX 318s at YVR and YUL but none from YYZ. How many of these planes does MX have in its fleet?

MX have 6 baby buses, and are used mainly to Canada, ORD and Ecuador, actually XA-UBV is restricted to Ecuador and can´t fly there, the rest do the flight.

Normally to Canada MX sends the A318 and A319, the flight from ORD is MX807 ORD-ZCL-MEX with very high loads (100 passengers and 3 ton baggage weight, that´s a lot of luggage)

Saludos

AFAIK, MX based on LF's, early in the week MX calculates and decides what will be the most apropiate A32X to cover their route system during the week. Depending on system reservations they can calculate and make equipment changes at the very last moment taking advantage and maximizing the fleet utilization.

MX currently has 6 A318s with pending deliveries of 4 A318s. BTW, Airbus has congratulated MX for having the best and highest time performance of A32X fleet aircraft utilization during the day averaging 12.2 hours.

JFK has been seeing the A318 more often, as of late.

Right, because with the loads of JFK this days, the A318 makes more money than the A319  biggrin

The system works fine, but sometimes the CEO (operations center) really screws up..... {headbang)

I had no idea MX was flying the babybus to YVR as well, but now it makes sense: a friend of mine flew with his family to YVR about a month ago and he told me that he flew MX and that it was a very small plane (he seemed very surprised about it); my original impression was "sure, the A319 is a smallish plane but, come on, you've been on A319's many times before, so what's the surprise?" but now I understand that he was on an A318 instead. I have yet to fly one of them! Hopefully it will be soon. A friend told me MX sometimes sends the A318 to MID as well.

I would assume with 3 daily, and sometimes 4 flights, skyteam gets most of the traffic on this route.

Actually it's more: 17 weekly AM flights (752 but every once in a while a 762ER or a 73W), 7 weekly DL flight (752) and 14 weekly daily CO flights (one 738 and one 73G). Besides, during the summer season, I think CO adds a third daily flight!

Sorry, I had only been looking at XA-UBS when I made that statement about no pictures at YYZ
