2nd Deck Of The A340-500

Wed May 11, 2005 11:17 pm

This should be on a A340-500. What is this?

Cargo/food/beverage storage deck? That's what seems to be.

That is the hatch and ladder which lead down to the flight attendant crew rest. There should be a few photos of what it's like down there floating around on airliners.net. I believe that they are of Air Canada. Also, there are a couple of photos from Austrian and Lufthansa showing the LD containers in which they can be housed.

Yeah, Qantas. KLM T7s have them, too. FAA Regulation puts flight crews in 8 hr sectors, so, if your flying over 8 hr sectors and you have a full cabin, your gonna wanna put your sleepy crew somewhere!! This is also for off-shift FAs, too.

Mobile crew rest. In other words it's a container in the hold which is used for longer flights. For shorter flights, the space can be used for cargo.

Sorry people, the link is broken down. I got the photo saved over here. But can't put it online on my own website from this PC.

These are also A340-500, but unfortunately no photos of the ladder...

I hope it isn't the storage deck; poor f/a-s! Imagine walking with some food & beverage on that ladder headache

This is actually different. These mobile crew rest pods actually take up part of the cargo capacity. The newer and retrofitted T7s have their crew rest in a deck above the main cabin. This saves both weight and cargo space.
