Compensation For Cxld Flts

Fri May 13, 2005 3:19 am

I was scheduled to fly MDW-ATL-LAS on Delta last Monday May 2nd however the MDW-ATL segment (Flt# 987) was cxld due to a mechanical delay on the 732. They rebooked everyone on the last flt of the day which arrived into ATL about 10p. Delta put me up in a hotel overnight and placed me on a flt Tuesday May 3rd at 10am. Well I missed a night of my vacation in Las Vegas and lost a night at my hotel since I prepaid through Priceline. My question is would it be worth my while to send a letter or email of complaint to Delta in hopes of getting a travel voucher or some other form of compensation? Thx in advance for your replies.

You are definitely welcome to try. They might give you a voucher or some miles, but in Delta's defense, in their Contract of Carriage (for whatever it's worth), they do state that they have no guarantee on their schedules, etc. Their only guarantee is that they will (at some point in time) get you from Point A to Point B.

A voucher or miles is about the most I would possibly expect. Beyond that, you might be holding your breath.

You're even on the hotel front (or close to it). You paid for a night in Vegas and DL substituted a night in Atlanta. On a mechanical delay, you should have received meal vouchers, too. Getting an airline to compensate for "a night of your vacation" is less fruitful than getting blood out of a turnip. It would be reasonable to request to change your return flights at no charge, however. Did you ask to be put on another airline CHI-LAS? Traveling on low-fare advance purchase tickets? You can always read their CoC (at Delta.com or any airport location) and hold them to every condition therein.

If the airline tickets were booked on priceline or hotwire the DL (or any of the airlines) will not book you offline, as it states in the contract. The reason doesn't matter for those types of tickets.

Thx for the replies..I sent an e-mail off on Delta.com earlier this evening. I got an auto response stating they have had an extremely high amount of emails and would get back to me a.s.a.p. So it's a waiting game now. Wish me luck..LOL B.T.W. the tickets were purchased directly on Delta.com.
