Bad Practice Of LH's Price Transparency

Fri May 13, 2005 3:18 pm

I was just checking out flights FRA-LON, and have come across the following example:

1.) Previously, FRA-LHR on LH was EUR 36 + Tax = EUR 99 total

2.) Now, they write FRA-LHR is EUR 21 + Tax + = EUR 99 total + EUR 15 levy of security charge --> makes a total of about EUR 130

I think this is a great example for a bad practice of an enterprise: The EUR 15, which the ticket has become apparently cheaper (see EUR 21 against , is levied as security charge), while the taxss/fees have apparently changed (probably they themselves increased the taxes/fees with some charges)

A great example for lack of transparency, bad business practice and for trying to make fools out of their formerly loyal clients - where is their code of conduct and their moral..?? they 're-pack' a fee increase in a really mean way while making appear that the ticket has become cheaper..

Thanks LH, I will take BA, BD, KL or AF

Yep, that's Craphansa for you alright. But as long as the average Hans still thinks, he is striking a great deal when flying with LH, the company will get succeed with such a policy.

And considering, how dumb 80 percent of the population are, I cannot even condemn LH for trying to get away with this...

Be happy with that prize from a mainline carrier putting you right into London's main airport. Biz Class rtn is roughly 920 Euros and full Y over 800, e-tix. Paper even higher.BA might be a few Euros cheaper BD does not serve the route and I doubt that KL or AF are cheaper as you have to change planes either CDG or AMS.

And if you go from HHN to STN, you might even catch a € 0,99 Ryanair cheapo, well, OK getting there and going from costs a but more and if you do not value your own time, its a real steal.

PanHAM, the discussion is not about a fare increase, but about the shady and customer unfriendly way, LH is trying to hide this.

I agree.. with all cumulated costs FR from HHN mostly turns out to be more expansive

BD does not serve the route

interestingly, you can book the BD codeshare on LH cheaper and fly with LH with the BD ticket

Yes, you got the point, Tristar (as usual  Wink ) - I just verified, and some other airlines do the same crap - who started this concept? I think it was LH with their Service fee concept...

a real bad practice.. it seems that FRs procedure is almost more transparent  Wink

Why don't you first use a site such as travelocity.com that shows the full price including taxes and fees on the first page, without having to dig through each airline's flights and fares?

Searching each airline's websites first seems a bit archaic. Who really cares what the breakdown is when it's the total that really matters?

I checked another agent (www.skyways.de), who basically gives this complicated breakdown.. moreover, some other agents do so, too.. and research on the airlines' webpage often reveals promotional offers.. hence elaborated research with multiple sources often leads to a better deal..

but advice taken, thanks..! travelocity is indeed quite good on transparency - but not always the cheapest
