Sat May 14, 2005 2:09 pm

Does anybody know why a Lufthansa 747-400 D-ABTE is parked at SFO overnight May 13 2005?

I was @ SFO this afternoon/taking some nice photos...  biggrin

Interesting to see a Philippines A340 today...that was different from the usual B747.........KLM's 777-200ER is definitely one of the best looking birds around!!

anyway, this is something I've found form the Lufthansa website..

I've seen LH depart late a bunch of times, so I dont' know if its going to be there overnight, unless there is something which I don't know of...

That was PR 114, which is an A340. PR 104 arrived about 1830, which is a 744. Certain days of the week, they operate double flights.

Who provided the engine? Did they have it shipped in by GE or is another LH plane bringing it in pieces?

Last I heard, a spare was to come in on a freighter from Europe.

I'm pretty sure they will make the Saturday departure as the flight plus trucking would not have the engine into SFO until the early hours during Sunday unless if they manage to locate an engine that is closer.

If CO has a spare 767 engine at their LAX hangars, they could truck/fly it up to SFO to trade with LH, if they can strap it on. They are both CF6-80C2 powered.

Did the plane return to FRA yet? Is it going be a revenue flight or just a ferry flight?

As of Sunday morning, the aircraft still parked at one of the remote spots at the G Pier at SFO. Don't know if they fixed it yet and are just waiting to depart at a more reasonable hour.

What kind of problems did the engine have? I am really interested in knowing the time it departed back to FRA.

I saw the aircraft at a remote parking area at SFO this morning. It was looking quite "depressed" due to the lack of any activity around it. They'd placed the orange traffic type cones below each Engine.

How did they take the pax to FRA?

At approx 1700 Sunday, a UA tug was towing the LH 747 from the remote stand to the UA hanger. I would say once the engine is replaced the flight will go back empty, maybe cargo.

good question...that being said, I did take some photos of an LH 747 today (D-ABVR) was the S/N....

this afternoon was THE best day to take photos @ SFO so far this year!!

Warm enough to wear only a t-shirt, though it got cooler in the evening....also for some reason, there was a high amount of 777's flying about.....not seeing me complain though  biggrin   yes

Does UA do the ramp and/or maintenance for Lufthansa at SFO or is it another contractor?

It seems that another 747-400 from LH face problems during GRU-FRA (EZE-GRU-FRA) on friday night (May 13). My flight to Miami was overbooked and i stayed in a hotel during the night with a lot of LH passangers. They said the plane took off and some minutes after the cmdt warns that they will come back to GRU. In the saturday morning (about 10 am local time in GRU) there is a 747-400 parked (not an usual time for them as they arrive from FRA in early morning and continue to EZE)
When i come back in the monday morning the aircraft is still in the same position (probably need an engine change) . Anyone knows something more ?

Regards,
Felipe
