MP Using 747, MD11 And 763 To Turkey Today?

Sat May 14, 2005 9:25 pm

MP (Martinair) using 747, MD11 and 763 to Turkey today?

I just saw on the AMS website that MP is having a lot of flights to Turkey to get the stranded Dutch tourists back home. But they are using 2 747's, which I thought where in cargo config for the moment. How long does it take to convert it back to full pax version?

Airports are Dalaman, Bodrum and Antalya.

Well, think about it this way. The floors, seats, galleys, everything are basically a big puzzle. Crews bring them in and they fit on the anchors in the cargo floor. The hold of the convertible 747s is not the same as that of a true cargo one, it has the ability to take these prefabricated pieces and have them locked and in place rather quickly. Perhaps I was too quick to say a few hours. Under 8 hours would be easier to say.

According to www.martinair.com -> About us -> Fleet:

Quote:
The other two 747s are convertible. This means that they can be used for the transportation of passengers or cargo depending on the commercial markets. Changing the configuration takes only three days.

So that's a little more than a few hours.

So does this mean the 747's were already coverted for the summer season?

MP will not convert its B747s as these will be deployed on the cargo routes to the Far East. The 747 is leased from Air Comet (EC-IPN) and will do 4 flights this weekend (today to Dalaman and Bodrum, tomorrow two Antalya rotations)

sure its an Air Comet? somewhere els i saw they were using an Pullmantur 747....

anyway, MP isn't planning to convert a 747 to pax again, and won't fly pax again at MP, since they only have about 2 years left (MP order 747-400SF)

and theire cargo ops are way more important than some Onur flights...
