Long-Haul Emergency Exit Rows

Mon May 16, 2005 6:26 am

Hello,

On August 3rd I will be flying on Iberia MAD-JFK on a A340-600. My seats are 20 ABC which are emergency exit rows.

I know that on the bigger planes like the B767/B777/B747 and A330/A340 fleet the emergency exit rows have not window on the doors unlike their smaller buddies like the B737s and A320s.

When I first got my seats assigned and I found out that they where emergency exit rows I flipped because I thought that there wouldn't be a window. I have done some more research on the matter and came up with this theory.

The seats are placed behind the emergency exit rows and do have a window, a regular window.

Now can any one tell me if this theory is true? I just don't want my first A340-600 flight to be ruined by not having a window.

Thanks!

Also, this photo shows seat 20 ABC and it appears that there is a window next to the seat.

I flew on IB MAD-EZE 340-600 and I'm pretty sure that row had regular windows, not 100% sure though

Thanks for the info. I have a friend who is flying on the MAD-JFK route on the A340-600 and I going to have her check to see if 20 ABC has a real window.

Thats strange as most airlines do not assign the emergency exit row until u are at checkin, with BA u cant even assign it on the phone or net. What if they assign it to a child or old woman. The seating will then get changed at check in
Where does the time go???

I was surprised that they assigned us the seats as well. My mom Iberia that my dad had a bad knee so we could get a bulk-head seat but they gave us the emergency exit row. I was complaing before because I didn't think it had a window but now I am loving that I have the seats!

I've assigned myself an exit row on the internet with BA many a time. Short haul mind, but still, it was an exit row. Oh the joys of internet check in!!

In some exit rows, yes the first row of seats are set back but even so you may find that your window is slightly behind you. If you're sitting back in your seat, you won't be able to see out and forward. This was my experience on a BA 777 to YYZ the other week.

(Even if this is case, (a) you can still see out and (b) it's worth it for the space. Ahhh...)

It looks like row 21 doesn't have a window.

Question, do the emergency exit row seats on long-haul planes recline?

I have sat in the emergency row on the A320 and B737 and know they don't recline.

The reason why they probaly assigned row 20 to me is because on the A340-300 it's a bulk-head seat. If the plane gets down graded, I hope it won't, then I would still be in a seat with extra legroon.

Quoting AlitaliaMD11 (Reply 8):

I thought that it was the row in front of the exit row on a 320 / 737 that didn't recline.
