AC Applying To US Export/Import Bank?

Mon May 16, 2005 11:24 pm

I heard that AC plans to apply to the US Export/Import Bank for most of funding needed for its big Boeing deal. Exactly what is the Export/Import bank and how does it work?

That is true. The Import/Export bank does exactly what it's name implies. Companies can getting funding for purchases of American products. Usually large captial goods, such as aircraft.

OK. But surely they would want something in return for giving out $6B or so. ACs 340/330 fleet perhaps? Or isn't Boeing purchasing those from AC?

The Export/Import bank is something along the lines of Export Development Canada. It provides and/or backs loans to buyers of American goods. It isn't simply giving the money to AC as such, and they would expect to be repaid.
