Has AC Cancelled Its 340-600 Orders Yet?

Tue May 17, 2005 1:30 am

AC CEO Robert Milton indicated that he would cancel the 340-600s on order now that AC has chosen Boeing to replace its Airbus widebodies. I'm wondering is this has already been done or is there a waiting period before AC can cancel its remaining Airbus orders.

I am pretty sure they have. I know VS took delivery of a A340-600 destined for Air Canada. They are also getting rid of their Airbus long-haul fleet so I doubt the order is still on.

Pretty sure I read in Flight International that the A340-600's were cancelled when they ordered the 777/787's

They'll probably cancel it when they ink the Boeing deal within the next month and a half.

They'll officially cancel them as soon as they have found the millions of dollars to cover them stepping out of a binding contract.

You wish. They can cancel their A346 order without penalty.

As NYC777 said, they'll officially be cancelled (by the airline) when the final contract is signed with Boeing. When Airbus actually takes them off their books, however, is another question entirely, considering their penchant for leaving cancelled orders listed.

LOL, too bad you were out when it was announced that AC had negotiated with Airbus that there would be no cancellation penalties for the A340-600 orders. It was part of AC's restructuring last year.

It seems to me that someone is rather angry about AC buying Boeing (or for that matter any airline buying Boeing).

This was publically stated by Air Canada during their CCAA proceedings. There wasn't a press release, but it was included in some of the various court documents that are publically available. I believe it was at the same time that AC negotiated to take delivery of their A340-500 after the agreement with ACPA.

As has been stated, the cancellation penalties were dropped as part of AC's CCAA restructuring. I'm not 100% certain that the documents would be there, but check www.sedar.com or alternately, the information should be available on the Court's website.

It's in those documents somewhere, and also Milton mentioned it during the conference call to announce the Boeing order.

Even if the have to pay penalties to undo the orders, I would expect it was part of a recently closed deal on new aircraft.
