DFW Terminal E - Sighting

Tue May 17, 2005 3:49 am

I flew into DFW this afternoon, and got to see Terminal E for the first time since Delta pulled out. It was quite a sad sight, as there were only 2 A/C at the terminal, neither of which were Delta. The terminal E annex still had the canvas maze of walkways for the CRJs and turboprops, but had grass growing around it instead of having A/C parked next to it.

On the other side of Terminal E is the new Terminal D, which will be opening soon. I wonder what plans DFW has for its empty terminals, both old and new?

As for Terminal E, once Terminal D (International) opens up on July 11th, or at least that is what the plan is, airlines in Terminal B (old Braniff) will begin to migrate over to terminal E.

HP/US will be the first to move, then Midwest Express ect. Still hearing Spirit is going to take over the satellite gates.

Also, it sounds like once B is empty for the most part, renovation will begin and DFW will eventually renovate A & C. AA and Eagle plan on having all of
A, B, C and 19 gates at D....sound like they will be too busy here than to worry about the Wright amendment.

Some more details on American's upcoming operations at Terminal D:

1. 19 of the 28 gates will be used by AA
2. Although techinally an international terminal, about half of AA's 110 flights out of the terminal will be domestic
3. All AA domestic widebody flights will move to Terminal D so widebody ground equipment is not being driven all over the airport (the exception is the Chicago-bound 777s, since all Chicago flights will be consolidated in Terminal A)

Talking long-term, very long-term, AA will probably end up controlling all of A, B, C and the vast majority of D. AA already operates out of A and C, and will have 2/3 of the beautiful new International Terminal D, and I could definitely see them consolidating all Eagle flying at Terminal B in the next ten years so AA mainline can have unrestricted use of all A, C and most D gates.

What is to happen to the rest of Terminal B (gates other than American Eagle)?

Apparently, according to N839MH, they want to move the Terminal B airlines down to Delta's old and now-abandoned Terminal E. I have not heard that, but it could very well be true and makes perfect sense.

Way down the line, AA will probaby end up getting all of Terminal B, not just the 16 gates they have now. Eagle could reconfigure Terminal B's existing 31 gates to easily handle 40-50 gates with small jetbridges for RJs and SAABs and then consolidate all Eagle operations there instead of having them split between Terminal B and the Terminal A satellite.

Long-term, I would bet that is where the B gates will end up: with Terminals A, C and most of D, under AA's control.

What domestic widebody service does AA have out of DFW? I assume the following will operate from D when it opens: LAX (767/777), SFO (767), MIA(777), HNL(767), OGG(767)--did I miss any?

MCI is served by a 767 as well as the S80's.
That's why we're here.
