Pan Am's New Destinations

Sun Apr 16, 2000 7:52 am

I just spoke to a Pan Am employee about where the airline is flying to next. He said that in the late summer time Pan Am will be flying to Philidelphia, St Louis and a destination in Cailfornia and if all goes well a few destinations in the carribean. I gave them a few airports they can fly to. Such as Atlantic City and Islip, NY. Keep in mind that Pan Am mostly flies to smaller airports to avoid congestion, most delays and other problems associated with big airports. So name a small airport that Pan Am can fly it's 727-200 aircraft to. Keep in mind that the runways of the small airport has to be long enough for a 727-200 to land on.

Well, here in CA, I would think that Ontario (ONT) would be more than sufficient. So would Long Beach (LGB) and Los Angeles (LAX). Even Fresno (FAT) would work.

Do you folks really think that the staff at Pan Ams office are waiting for our mails and suggestions.... They have some surplus capacity, are wondering what they could do with it... Someone calls in and suggests Flagstaff, Sanford or Springfield, and then they think "Gee, cool, let's do that one!"
... (I'm teasing you, I hope no offence taken)

Where in CA would it fit with their idea to stick with underused airports? Can Van Nuys handle passenger traffic? Oxnard? How about the Bay area?

BUR (Burbank) CA. would be a smart move for them.

ABQ is small enough for PanAm, and we even have 2-3 gates that are unoccupied. PanAm used to fly here before they went under and i think it was a ABQ-LAX route, if you know what the route was can you tell me? But i think PanAm should consider ABQ as a destination.

I too spoke with someone at Pan Am, they never mentioned California. Yes, St. Louis is a big possible. They currently fly to Pittsburgh, and I don't think they'll be going to PHL anytime soon. As far as the Caribbean, they're already doing that. Every weekend they've got TNT Vacations charter flights departing PSM to St. Martins and St. Kitts. They're also flying to Aruba from PIT as a charter. I too put in my suggestions! Puerto Rico would be a nice route for them. We'll just have to see what they do next.

I just visited PSM on Saturday, and PA had quite a bit of activity. A 727 outside of the main hangar(needing an engine), a 727 and a J-31 in the hangar, and a 727 at the gate loading for BGR. I went into the terminal and talked to the gate agent for awhile. I got a Pan Am pin, coffee cups, napkins, and and a rare Pan Am DC-10 keychain!!!!!!! They have a very nice ticketing and gate area.

Sorry I moved from SXM, looking for a new house on Anguilla now!
