When US & HP Merge, HP Is In Star Alliance?

Tue May 17, 2005 6:41 pm

IF HP and US Merged would HP belong to the Star Alliance?

Not to mention the ties US has with United what would that mean for UA? Or if they drop the Star Alliance would they still be able to have UA as a Code Share?

If I were a betting man, I would say NO.. because until they actually complete all the transactions and changes and motions, it will be at least a year from now. And by then America West would be USAirways. USAirways is in Star Alliance, but I highly doubt America West would ever be. It may become a codeshare partner of Star Alliance via USAirways, but America West would not be a Star Alliance member. Especially since it is only going to be around for a year. And that's all I got to say about that.

BUt if they are not accepted to the star Alliance the co-share with UA would be droped and they UA will be hurt even more . . . . HAHA Down UA down

USAirways is already in STAR. Unless there is a clear reason to kick them out, any merged airline would almost certainly remain in the alliance.

Well, I don't think America West will join.

I remember when AA acquired TWA. TWA never became a member of the oneworld Alliance.

It only remained as an AA codeshare.

Its widely expected that the entire HP schedule will be code-shared with the US code - like AA/TWA. So in a round about way the HP network will be added to STAR, but the company itself won't. Should know more tomorrow.

Well, if UA up and dies, HP would provide Star with a solid western US network. US in the east, and no-one in the middle!

Cheers

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

I'm hoping HP leaves star after the merger. I'd rather see them get closer to OW. The combined airline would already have a relationship with BA and QF. Attracting CX, LA, and maybe IB shouldn't be too much of a problem.
