Ibera To Set Up LLC, What Would The Name Be?

Tue May 17, 2005 7:07 pm

Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana SA is still considering setting up another brand or affiliate to cater for the low-cost.
The LCC would also come with low wages staff, in order make Iberia save some 550-600 mln eur.
Savings would also come from renegotiated travel agencies commissions, changes to in-flight services and the management of fuel needs.

Where would the aircraft most likely come from?
What would be the first route(s)?

VIVA air.

Iberia even have a brand, and logo sitting in a drawer somewhere. Viva was profitable, and had a future. Unions didnt like it.

Hmm intersting ~ You really think they would reuse the name?

Viva Air

SPAIN - EC

ICAO CODE: VIV

CALLSIGN: Viva

Viva Air began life on 24 February 1988 formed as a Spanish and German inclusive-tour charter carrier. It was created by Lufthansa and Iberia.

The airline flew its first flights on 15 April 1988 with a small fleet of three Boeing 737 series 300 jets in a colourful sun-and-sea livery reflecting its mission as a holiday carrier. Two further 737-300 jets were acquired the following year.

Douglas DC9-32 jets were leased by the airline to cover its needs until it built up a fleet of nine 737-300s in the early 1990s.

One of Viva Air's other tasks was to fly some scheduled services for parent-company Iberia. One of these routes that was flown on a daily basis was a Spanish regional route to London-Heathrow, for which it used 737s.

Iberia took over 98 percent of the shares of the previously join-owned airline in the mid-1990s after which Viva Air started some of Iberia's domestic scheduled routes although these were ended in 1995 at which time the airline concentrated on the IT holiday charter business on behalf of Iberia. Viva Air also flew ad-hoc charters.

It used to operate the Heathrow - Palma service for certain. Don't know if it did any others into LHR.

It also did ALC and VLC to DUB on a scheduled basis.

Great logo with a very Spanish name.

I take it the 319's that were based in Miami or the just recently ordered 318's will become the fleet for Iberia's new LCC?

I do agree completely. As much as I love Spain and it's people as much I am disappointed about Iberia's services. Also what their staff here in Switzerland (most of them Swiss people) provide is far away from a good polite service.

Having flown IB domestic and intra european flights before and after they took away free food, it makes you wonder who will fly IB if they start their LCC... It is like Delta domestic and Song. Service is better on a Song flight than on a DL flight and Song is cheaper most of the times, though they only fly destinations where LCC competiton is tough...

How about bringing back the name AVIACO!!!

For people here claiming to be Airline enthusiast some should first learn what a LCC is.

A second brand to compete with LCC in certain routes might be a good idea and if it's carried out only time will tell.

I imagine they would compete on routes which are now done by LCC and IB is not present.

DUB-LPA or LON-IBZ/PMI/MAH for example also I would go for LON-LEI and LON-MJV very popular lately with the Brits.
These are my principles but if you don't like them I have others

Sorry but it isn't. If you have any delays on any IB flight, you will be given at least a snack ticket, and if you have to stay all the night at the airport because any problems, you will be given a hotel ticket.
If you fly with U2, as long as I know, you will NOT be given anything! Just wait until the plane is ok to leave!
In this case IB keeps this "Detail" which is not usually offered by LCCs.
Hope this argument is enough to explain that IB is not a LCC at all.

Emilio

Sorry, man, if you take a look at it... it's called being sarcastic.
And NO... IB made me miss my connecting flight to EZE, March 2004. After flying in from AMS and arriving 10 mins late to MAD, I rushed all over the airport, to get to the gate where my IB flight to EZE was boarding. I got there, the plane was still in the gate. I thought I was safe.. but NO, when I approach the ramp to board a RUDE ramp agent said to me, "Sir you arrived late, you are not going to be able to board this flight". I explained the whole situation to that so called agent. She said that I should refer myself to the passenger complaints to demand something in return. I was not the only one missing the flight. I had 5 people behind me.
So, again... I began my journey around the airport AGAIN. I found that desk and for some reason, there was a LONG QUEUE and NO ONE... and I mean as in NO ONE (None, Zero, Cero, NADA) to start getting the customers to move and see what their problem was. I was in line for 3 (three) HOURS. And guess what... to make my day better, another agent said to me that they were NOT paying a hotel for me because I had lost my connection (because of their fault) and they would rebook me in a flight as soon as there was availability.
I was fed up with it, 23hrs waiting in MAD and with no Hotel room because... "It's company policy". No Hotel, no meal, no lounge - and I paid full price for this ticket, not a discount fare.
This has been taken to court and I have witnesses so I do have a case. There has not been a ruling yet.

So this...

...it's pure fantasy with IB.

Iberia charging its European passengers high prices for a cup of weak tea and a half frozen sandwich on a 3hour flight is an insult to the warmth and hospitality that Spanisards show to visitors.

IB does not reflect Spanish hospitality.

Thanks for your report. I still haven't changed my mind about it. I'm not giving them my business again. I thought they really DID change, but unfortunately I was wrong.

I think IB still has a lot to do in that matter. But that's just my opinion. Despite my perils, I still had fun in MAD Big grin

Political comments should be kept in that arena and not on this forum. I understand the individual who made the comments about Spain was in the wrong as well, but keep the comments to aviation. To say you 'hate' the leader of your country is stupid and should be stated somewhere else. That is what is great about our country, that you can say how you feel. However, say it somewhere else.
