BA LGW Operations

Wed May 18, 2005 7:49 am

Does British Airways have a dedicated fleet (ie specific registration numbers) assigned to Gatwick? If they do not, then how do they rotate the aircraft to Heathrow for maintenence? Do the 777's get rotated through IAH, somewhat like LGW-IAH-ORD-LHR? I assume that since there are shared Heathrow-Gatwick european destinations that the aircraft would get rotated through the destination point.
Thanks

Gatwick has a dedicated fleet, as does Heathrow. They don't intermix.

Although some BA A319 operations do a W routing LHR-MAN-LGW-MAN-LHR I understand.

How about crew bases? Is there a designated LHR crew base and a designated LGW crew base, or is London treated as just one crew base, (ie similar to how AA treat's Los Angeles w/ LAX, ONT, SNA, BUR, LGB)

Except for the 777 pilots who are dual based at LHR/LGW

This is generally true. However, over months there might be a slight variation of some 777's base. The changes are generally quite infrequent. Don't think any 734's (indeed any 73's) are at LHR now so will no longer rotate.

All of the 777-200's based at LGW are all GE powered!
