My wife and I flew Air Aruba on our honeymoon in 1997, then again in 1998. Once in the air the service was nice and efficient, the only problem was actually getting in the air!
- We're on the Sunday morning flight to Aruba. We're notified on Friday the flight is cancelled, we're put on the Sunday evening flight (we basically lose a day of our holiday). Sunday evening flight is extremely cramped.
- We get to the airport to go home, and my wife is not on the passenger list. They said there was a problem with the 'download' from their Miami operations. Flight is completely booked, and they tell us that I can go home, but my wife has to stay behind (she would get meals, hotel for the night and a free RT ticket for a future flight for her trouble). No way in hell we tell them. I told them if she was staying behind, we were both staying behind, and that they would have to give us both meals and two RT tickets). They agreed, so we got to experience Air Aruba again next year:
- Get to the airport and they tell us our flight is cancelled. We're to go over the Continental Airlines desk and that we would fly a later CO
flight to Miami, then an Air Aruba flight to Oranjestad. We lose a half day of holiday.
- Get to the airport, said there was going to be a long delay (> 2 hours), but at least we check in okay. After sitting at the gate for awhile we finally see a white 727 with a black tail pull up. I said WTF since I knew that this wasn't a Air Aruba plane. Turns out it was the Miami Heat
team plane, better yet, this would be the aircraft that would take us home direct to EWR
. When we got on there were all leather seats, and plenty of leg room. At least my Air Aruba experience would end on a positive note!
