Airlines Not In AMS Anymore

Thu May 19, 2005 12:58 am

Whatever happened to airlines like Philipine Airlines, Korean Air, South African, Emirates, Thai in AMS. They don't seem to be interested (anymore) in flying to AMS with their own equipment. Are they codesharing ?
Is Garuda still doing AMS at this point ? I am not sure about that.

Will we ever see those airlines back at AMS ?

I recently heard that Garuda code shares its London route with MH, They probably code-share with someone for AMS.

Garuda stoped all European services a couple of years ago. Likewise PAL (Philipine Airlines) after they were grounded for a time back in the late 90s.

Not entirely true, because I have found photos here on a.net from Garuda at AMS in 2004, just not in 2005.
That's why I am wondering if Garuda finally decided to also quit AMS, which to me sounds strange because of the historical bonds between Indonesia and The Netherlands.

GA decided in July 2004 to stop CGK-AMS flights beginning in October 2004. Thsi was their last remaining flight to Europe. Last week there was a thread about it: Garuda Indonesia And Europe - What Happened? (by Lazyshaun May 12 2005 in Civil Aviation).
Sad thing: no more pics of a nice GA bird at AMS Sad

AMS is not giving EK rights to land for one reason or another. I think it is to protect KLM. But EK Sky Cargo flies to AMS.

I wonder now after Air France bought KLM, would EK apply for landing rights again? EK somehow is not getting landing right to Holland and also to Spain. Something to do with KLM and Iberia, as far as I heard.

Please correct me if I am wrong

EK156 you're incorrect. All the slots EK has (and gets) are used (and probably will be used) for its cargo flights at this this the most porfitable. AMS is still low yield for pax but high yield for cargo. Furthermore, EK serves the Dutch market from DUS

PR is codesharing with KLM (KLM 777) EK flies cargo into AMS (very profitable I've been told), Thai just has probably no real business in AMS as AMS-BKK is already crowded (even before Phuket Air came and left) and South African has focussed on other airports.

We also lost Air India, Bangladesh Biman, Gulf Air, SriLanka (okay at the time it was still called Air Lanka), Aerolineas Argentinas and a lot more.

But when I spoke to one of the managers of KLM in Dubai, they told me that AMS is not giving EK slots or rights or something of that sort to protect KLM!!!

Don't you think AMS is a more important airport than DUS? I mean I am just asking?

Wrong. EK currently uses all of it slots that it requested. It just chose to operate cargoflights on these slots because they think there's more money for them in these flights.

They've informed you wrong. If EK is applying for more slots, they will taken into the yearly "slot-lottery" as I like to call it. Big chance that it will be approved.

Hmmm.... AMS is quite an important connecting airport. I wonder why emirates is using it only for Cargo. They are flying to Vienna, DUS, soon Geneva and Hamburg. Do you thing the traffic to these airports is higher than that to AMS?

What about Spain? Howcome EK doesn't fly to Spain?
