Imagine HP/US Bringing Back The 747 N532AW

Fri May 20, 2005 12:13 pm

With all these new Intl destinations do you think that HP would be able to pull the only 747 they have left in storage back to use? Also what happened to the other three 747's they had.

not likely, the money wud be better spent leasing a newer 400! Would save in fuel costs over a period of time to pay for the 400!

That was certainly an awesome sight...very exciting for them at the time. If the plane is in storage and not broken up, we no longer own it that's for sure.

I know one of them was scrapped.

I have been told by a former HP employee that they were a total disaster economically speaking. He said one actually flew a route with one passenger on board.

Frankly speaking this is one great looking paint scheme -also I am not a friend of these white liverys flying around and prefer the ones of KLM or NW for example. But the old HP livery looks great much better then the current one -which looks like it is taken of a comic book -the old one is more classy.

Regarding the topic I doubt that we will say any Boeing widebody aircrafts with HP/US within the next 10 years. The largest aircrafts will be A330/A350.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

The 747's at HP where single-handedly one of the dumbest and money losing mistakes they made back then. Complete overkill for them.

It turned out to be that way, however had the Gulf Crisis not happened, the routes would have been profitable. The war killed the air travel industry along with the profitable route. It was sad really. In the beginning the route was doing very well and they actually ordered 4 brand new B744's. Those orders were cancelled obviously.

It will take a lot of glue and speed tape....

I would certainly be prepared to pay for the glue just to see this one fly again, a fantastic livery on the 747.
Sad to see these pics.

The route ran PHX-HNL-NGO (Nagoya). The return was the same I believe, perhaps going NGO-HNL-LAS-PHX instead...don't remember. I know for sure they ran the 747 late night from LAS-PHX for a while as a continuation of a HNL run. Man that would have been cool!

My understanding is that N531AW and N532AW were scrapped in 1996 and N533AW in 1994.

If they do fly B747, then it will not be those 3.

They also flew the 747 PHX-JFK for a while, I flew on it once, was in pretty ratty condition, glad I got to ride it for the memories but I was not impressed

Most are listed above. They were used PHX-HNL-NGO, LAS-HNL, LAS-PHX (probably a repositioning flight), and for a short time PHX-JFK.
