No PTVs? I'm quite surprised. Thanks anyway
There was talk here on this forum a while ago about KL planning to upgrade their MD11 and 744 cabins to the 777-style, with PTV etc. Haven't heared anything about that lately. Is it still happening and what's the timetable for it?
No, the MD-11 currently do not have PTV's. The only aircraft in KLM's fleet that has is the 777 and from August the A330.
KLM will install LCD overhead
screens (no PTV's) on the MD-11 to replace the current monitors.
Between 2006 and 2008 KLM will retrofit the 747-400 fleet with the MAS-3000 system like the ones on the 777's and also install the 777 WBC seats on its 747-400 fleet.
Furthermore there will be a new design for carpets, seatcovering, curtains and wallpaper on the 744/MD-11/737.
The 767 will not get any treatment as they will be phased out and replaced with the A332 aircraft.
But often the monitors in economy aren't working....
Often??? That is so not true J-Bird. KLM serves AUA with the MD
-11 almost on a daily basis and I flew that aircraft more than any other aircraft in the KLM fleet and very seldom does the problem occur that the monitors are not working...it happens, but very seldom. If it is a problem we are aware of prior to departure, we get someone from Technical Services to take a look at it.
I do remember oce that when we got back the PH
-KCI "Mother Teresa" from a lease to VASP the PTV's in WBC and the monitors were not working. We had to give each passenger an apology letter explaining the situation and extending our sincere apologies in 4 languages and the Service Manager required us to make an announcement at the gate and in the lounge at the time.
On my way to LIM
I have sampled every aircraft in KLM's fleet except for that one.... sigh.
