OHare: Circa 1990 Video

Sun May 22, 2005 1:25 pm

I recently found a tape that I made way way back in 1990 with one of those huge VHS video cameras (try doing that today with something that big). It has some shots from the plane waiting at the gate, taxing, takeoff, landing at SFO, some footage of the ramp from the (ORD) terminal, and ends up taxing at night back at ORD. This video is about 16.5 minutes long and about 140 megabytes. It is in the .wmv high quality format, so it probably isn't something someone on dial up would want. Keep in mind it is also a 15 year old video tape, and the initial quality isn't so great. It is set to music, mostly because the original audio mostly consisted of a 15yo (me) rambling on about nothing. If the music is too much, just turn down the audio and enjoy. The server might get turned off if it gets hit too hard (they say 10mbps) but hopefully won't. I have over 900 gigabytes of bandwidth left this month, so hopefully it will be enough.

Great video! Back in 1990 I was only nine years old, but seeing all those 727s and DC10s sure brings back memories of the way things were back then.

It's weird - I live in Chicago now, and I recognized so much of the terminals and airfield at ORD. It was strange not seeing Terminal 5 as you taxied out - all the international airlines were parked on remote stands where T5 was later built. The TWA L1011 on Concourse G is also a nice reminder of how big TWA used to be in Chicago.

Thanks for sharing the video. I'm always a sucker for airline nostalgia.

Really liked the video, the music at the beginning made it seem like a horror film.

Thanks. I havn't flown out of ORD since, so I don't know how things have changed, but I thought the old TWA, and Pan Am jets would bring back some memories.

Really liked the video, the music at the beginning made it seem like a horror film.

To be honest, It was the only track I had that would fit after the other tracks were added in.

Really Great video. God the Nostalgia, I remember changing many times in ORD and boy that brought back a lot of memories. The music was quite fitting, and the topper for me was the United 747-100. Thanks for sharing.

A great way to take you back.

I know I have a movie shot at MCO in 1995 somewhere - nice to see all those 727s from Kiwi, United, American, ATA & TWA, Northwest DC-9s  Wink, Rich International TriStars, and 767s from Britannia, Airtours & Air UK Leisure, before the British charter carriers moved to SFB. Amazing how it can all change in what seems such a short time.

I miss going to the airport with my camcorder and recording hours of footage.
I have St.Louis from 1994, Atlanta in 1997 from the perimeter road and terminal, Charlotte from 1996 with lines of F100s, 6 hours from Frankfurt taken in January 2002, My Air South flight from CHS to EWR and about 1 hour total from Newark with the highlight being footage of the TWA 727 that was hijacked in 1985 plus Boston from 1997.

Man that was great! I love the live version of 'Learning to Fly'. United DC10s and 727s everywhere! L10s, 741s and even a NW DC9 in Republic colors.. Sweet..
