Does AA Still Serve BOS-Bermuda?

Sun May 22, 2005 7:55 pm

Am curious if AA still serves the BOS-BDA market. I checked their web-site and everything seems to be via JFK or MIA. Is the BOS route seasonal or has it been discontinued? Thanks!

No. AA cut BOS-BDA a few years back, 2002 IIRC. The flight was too heavily seasonal (even more so than JFK), and only operated as such, and was not generating enough O&D revenue to make it worth it. Instead, AA now flies MIA-BDA, which has been a huge success and it places MIA as a nexus between the huge international offshore banking and financial interests and the financial and banking hubs of the Caribbean and Latin American, like GCM.

DL have always been the dominant carrier on BOS-BDA. However, since AA cancelled the route US Airways have quietly stepped in.

A bit of a history lesson. Around 1976 or so AA flew BOSBDA with a 747!

Right you are. As of 1977, AA flew:

Flt 615 BOS 08:40 BDA 11:35 707 MoWe
Flt 615 BOS 08:40 BDA 11:35 747 ExMoWe
Flt 619 BOS 12:00 BDA 14:55 707 TuThFr

Of course, back then, AA also flew 707s BOS-JFK/LGA and BOS-DCA! My, how times have changed!  Smile

I don't believe that 707's were allowed into either LGA or DCA. We also used to fly DC-10's NS to LAS from BOS and they were always packed too, of course that was before my time.

I apologize, you're right. 727s flew BOS-LGA and BOS-DCA, 707s flew BOS-JFK. And yes, Flight AA 11 (ended after 9/11 for obvious reasons) was a DC10 leaving BOS at about 12:30 each afternoon.

A bit more history:

PA flew the route for a while with a 727 in the late 80's/ ealy 90's
US has also done the route on/off
