LGW has sort of become a place for 747's that aren't going anywhere in recent times. We had G-VCAT for ages and now this one. Phuket Air are banned from flying in the UK, so that plane can't actually leave the ground, which means that planes stuck!
Despite the name I am a Boeing man through and through!
Phuket Air is specifically mentioned by the Department for Transport as having its permit to operate within the United Kingdom revoked due to operational safety concerns. So the aircraft is unable to move unless they can regain the permit or it is sold to another operator who can then demonstrate that it is safe to fly.
Basically it's clamped....and the axe is probably going to fall on it unless it's economically viable to buy it, repair it and fly it out.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way there...
The aircraft has also been impounded for failure to pay landing fees by Phuket Air. This is in on top of the series of problems experienced at LGW by Phuket Air last month, such as the aborted take-offs and fuel leaks from an overfilled wing.
I remember reading on another forum that the landing fees amount to between £7,000 and £10,000, though I'm not sure of the truth to this.
