I'm not to keen on the livery though. Any ideas of a livery that can match 9W's excellent reputation?

Is there an advertizing blitzkrieg in Mumbai and/or London concerning this service?

What, if any, are the new inflight features of this service?

Great to see a new Indian airline in London. It was 56 years back that AI began its operations to London in June 1948. Good luck to Jet Airways and all it's employees.

I'm sure it was difficult for them to get a photo of the aircraft with the new registration in time to meet the deadline of putting together the adverising copy. Only geeks like us (= A.nuts) would notice this anyway.  Smile Go easy on them.

Question:

How many members of cockpit crew (i.e., "pilots") are on board 9Ws BOM-LHR flights ?
[On another thread it was suggested that AI have only two cockpit crew on this leg].

That is correct. Air India no longer staffs flights with a relief pilot with the exception of flights between Frankfurt and Los Angeles. This follows a relaxing of duty time rules by the DGCA and the de-recognition of the Indian Pilots Guild union by Air India in 2003.

All I can say is that is one GORGEOUS livery. Thank God one airline has the decency to keep cheatlines around a little bit longer. Wow. I love it.

An A340-300E in 9W colors! Wow! Air Indias loss is 9W's gain!!

And Indian passengers finally have a swadeshi option to Air India! And one they can be proud of, unlike Air India! Jet Airways, in sharp contrast to Air India, is an all spit-n-polish operation and with these quiet, efficient and economic A340's is going to set new standards in international travel.

As for Air India, this is beginning of the end for that airline.

You are really funny, How can you compare 3 772's to one 343?
Do you really think 772 is inferior to a 343, comon wakeup!
The B772's are the best thing that happened to AI.
Fly both a/c's and then tell the difference from a passenger's view.

I don't think he was comparing the 2 aircraft, but the fact that Indian passengers have an Indian alternative to AI.

As far as what passengers think, most passengers couldn't tell the difference between an A340 or a 777 or a 747. All that they'll see is that 9W's IFE on their A340 is probably superior to AI's.

I don't understand Jet buying an A343 is a loss to AI. AI was not interested in that A343, but intstead went for better options.

I agree that Jet could have better IFE and service but that's got nothing to do with the a/c as even the 777's have the IFE/PTV. It only depends on how it is ultilised and everyone knows who will do a better job.
So, AI would not have been any better with those "An A340-300E in 9W colors! Wow!Air Indias loss is 9W's gain!! " which is a completely meaningless statement. It only advertises his signature.
You can't expect anything more from a Govt airline, which is not as bad as one may think but has a long way to go. Jet is a different story.

No it isnt. Air India oriinally wanted A340's but went for the T7's. So this statement makes perfect sense. AI's loss is indeed 9W's gain!!

Quoting Trvyyz (Reply 29):

AI original choice was the Airbus A340-300. That changed overnight in rather *ahem* mysterious circumstances in the past few months. Scan through the posts over the last few months and you will know the details.

Quoting Trvyyz (Reply 29):

Air India was at one time one of the worlds best. It was state-owned then as it is now. But today Air India does not spell class any more. It is a third-wordly airline in the same category as Ariana, Biman or Kuwait Airways. Even PIA is better than AI these days. And things have come to this pass becuase of unprofessionalism and lack of proper work culture.

He he he! nice try TRVYYZ, but if the 772 is a bullet then 9W made the right choice after all!! The Bullet, nice bike though it is, i not known for either reliability or economy! You dont buy a bullet for either of those factors! And you are hearing this from a bullet owner!

But i suspect an airline might be interested in both of these!

And BTW, I wasnt comparing the aircraft but the airlines.

Quoting TRVYYZ (Reply 27):

Matter of opinion! 9W with the so-called "slow", "inefficient" Airbus can still kick Air India's ass anytime! And Air India, T7's or A310's, will always remain our national shame!

Although I agree with some of your statements but I cannot understand the logic about gain and loss. AI went for 777's not because it didn't get the A340s, but because it wanted the 777's. So no question of loss for AI. The govts changed and the a/c changed. I have read many posts on "rust buckets", but so far those allegations regarding any inferiority of the UA 777's could not be proved. But I can agree that there could have been some foul play by Aviation mantri, but why put the blame on the a/c.

Also it is a postive factor that AI has now to compete with 9W, I am sure AI will rise up to the occasion.

I don't think 9W chose the aircraft because they were "quiet, efficient and economic" A340 (I think they wanted 777 but couldn't get any). They took the A340 because they were 1) available 2) brand new 3) had great interiors and IFE designed by South African.

Air India ORIGINALLY asked for the A340-300's whichwas changed to the 777 AFTER the mantri ordered a "review in national interest". Period. So it is wrong to say that Air india becuase it "wanted the 777's".

Quoting Shawnnyc (Reply 34):
(I think they wanted 777 but couldn't get any).

Who told you that: Naresh Goyal?  Silly This is one of those perception things! Just bcoz they have an all-boeing shorthaul fleet doesnt automatically mean they will go for the 777!

If you followed newspaper reports you would know that 9W kept their options wide open on their long-haul fleet, and at one stage they were reported to be considering a mix of A310's and A340's picked up from a European carrier: the A310's becuase they could help boost capacity domestically as well as flying to SIN from HYD, MAA and DEL when that opened up.
