Metal Cutlery To Fly Again On British Airways

Tue May 24, 2005 8:42 pm

A friend of mine just flew LHR - MIA the other day and stated that they have metal back . . so I did a search and found this small article. If i remember right about a year ago another intl airline brought back Silvaware which airline was that? If known?

Metal cutlery will make its comeback on British Airways flights this week after an absence of nearly four years following the 11 September terrorist attacks on America.

Late April/early May 2005: KLM IAD-AMS-IAD had metal cutlery as well. NW AMS-BOM-AMS had metal too.

Metal cutlery were approved for use by the TSA a while back. Most airlines however have kept using the now voluntary and recommended disposable cutlerly.

I agree on the freebies issue. I have an attractive collection of crockery from various classes and airlines, but no cutlery...

BA are still only bringing back metal in First and Club World. Those in the back will continue to use plastic.

thumbsup  Looking forward to having metal back, although I'll have to wait a couple of months to give it a go.

Club World customers will be happy know that they will not have to battle through steak with plasticware  Smile

it does seem incongrous to have a formal table set in front of you, with Linen and Wedgwood (F) or Royal Doulton (J) and a fillet steak and then have to try to cut said steak with some feeble looking white plastic cutlery, where you have to try not to push to hard or risk the knife splitting.

never order steak on a flight, that way you don't have to guess.

Was just last week in Houston on BA, Club World, still plastic, awful. There's enough plastic running around in the States already.

I flew AF last September to PHL and I think they had some weird combination of metal/plastic cutlery. Can't remember to be honest.....In any case nice to hear some airlines are switching back to metal cutlery.

I had metal cutlery on SA my last trip, ATL-SID-CPT-JNB-CPT-SID-ATL, it was nice. Heck, it was weird getting a metal knife on the plane, but a plastic one in the terminal at a restaurant at ATL.

Enjoy your cutting edges everyone, Al Queda has achieved it aims, of making the US invade two muslim countries and get itself bogged down in an inextricable mess that will cost it dearly in blood, money and moral leadership.

OBL and his criminal cohorts could vanish without trace tomorrow, as I wish they would, but I despair over the damage the world's only super power has done to itself...which makes all the lunacies imposed on its airlines seem insignificant by comparison.

If only they had patiently but carefully applied intelligence, and a band of really good killers to the problem, they would have rooted these evil bastards out, and avoided being sucked into this hellish vortex.

Now my grandchildren grow up in a world where half a billion people have a renwed sense of moral outrage against the US...and a very large proportion of its treasury bonds.
