ROC Pax Up 12 Percent In 1Q 2005 Over 1Q 2004

Tue May 24, 2005 11:24 pm

From today's Democrat and Chronicle:

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/...=/20050524/BUSINESS/505240312/1001

In short, "Airport officials reported 128,325 boardings last month and 477,526 boardings through the first four months of 2005. That's up 12 percent from the first four months of 2004." April is up 7 percent despite Easter falling in March.

So there were about 905,000 pax movements in 1q 2005. If ROC's growth stays at around 12 percent for the year, 2.76 million pax movements in 2004 might grow to about 3.1 million this year. That would be the first time ROC ever breaks 3 million. Seat capacity isn't growing much so far this year, so load factors must be high.

What additional flights does ROC have now that it didn't a year ago?

JetBlue added a sixth daily to JFK on May 3. AirTran began their Tampa nonstop in 2004, as well as the seasonal FLL. American begins a nonstop CR7 to Dallas in early August. Also, Delta has upped seat capacity to both ATL and CVG over the past year. More CR7's, (up from CR5's) and an additional daily to CVG.

BTW, Bush is in Rochester right now, and Air Force One--they did bring the 747--is parked at the USAirports cargo apron!

If pax movements continue to grow, it would be nice to see a return of mainline service from AA and Delta.

*If I was on shift at the USAirports Building today I'd be squared away. I still wanna try and get out and grab a glane of AF! though.*

3 million pax would be quite an accomplishment. Even more impressive when you consider large companies like Kodak cutting back in the area.

Nice video of AF1 landing on the WOKR / WHAM 13 website. You have to sit through about 10 minutes of fluff before it actually lands though. Looks like it used up pretty much the whole length of rwy 22 while slowing down.

Yes, the video is very nice. The only delayed airliner I could see from WOKR's view was a Delta Connection CRJ at A2. There may have been more a/c out of sight. I worked on a letter while the fluff played.  Smile Too bad the weather was so rainy, AF1 just broke out of the clouds right before touching down.

We'll see if AA adds an MIA nonstop later in the year; our South Florida expert MAH thinks one is possible around December. By that time JetBlue will have its first EMB-190's. I don't know if we'll get an FLL nonstop though, AirTran's site shows their ROC-FLL nonstop coming back online in November. I don't know if we could support a second daily to FLL. Also, B6 may start substituting our A320's first to free them up for longer-range flights.
