AN-124 In Denver (KDEN)

Wed May 25, 2005 10:16 am

I flew into Denver on 23-05 and flew back home on 24-05. On both days, I spotted an AN-124 on the field. Do any of you Denver-based guys know why it was/is there and were there any pictures taken?

Thanks,

Michael

It was Volga today if I saw correctly. I know they were here previously hauling rockets for Lockheed-Martin. There are pics in the database of the AN-124 being loaded here.

Thanks guys. I looked at the DB to see if anything was uploaded in the last few days. When I arrived on 23-05, a major thunderstorm had just passed through, and I could see that the AN-124 was taxiing amongst the backed-up traffic. I thought that it was leaving (and stuck around for a while to see if it did), but it was still there this afternoon. Just seeing it made may day--the vertical stabilizer is enormous....

Regards,

Michael

Sadly, the An-124's days visiting DEN are probably numbered as Lockheed Martin is shutting down its facility here, and production of the rockets is being moved to a plant in Decatur, Alabama...

Greg, was that the only purpose of the AN-124's in DEN? Any other "clients" here besides Lockheed-Martin?

To my knowledge they are the only one...could be wrong though...

Nope, Lockheed was the only reason the AN-124 visited DEN.

We also had a Cargolux freighter come in once carrying luxury cars, but I don't know if that was a one time deal or if it'll happen again. Hopefully it comes in again, cause I botched my shots the last time it came in  banghead
